'14 KY DT Matt Elam

I think the "offer" basically came around the time when they still didnt have many Dline commits. It doesnt seem like they really pursued him even after the offer.

I agree. I honestly think the offer came to help recruit Mosley. Kind of told Charles we were still going to recruit bigger DTs. Most of the other DTs we were offering were of the 280-300lb type. I don't think the staff ever actually wanted Elam.

Down to UK and Bama per 247
I'm actually hearing Bammer here. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. You never want Bama to get these good players, but the less talents UK gets the better. Bama will get talent either way. JMO

I also think Matt is overrated

That's exactly the way I've thought about this recruitment from day one. Bama will get theirs either way but the less competition in the east the better.

I hope kensucky doesn't get this kid hes the type of player that could make a defense. I still believe we could have won another game if Big Dan had been consistent.

100% agreement here

It really depends on what site you go by for him to be overrated. He's a 99 (5 star) on 247, which I agree is overrated, but he's only a 5.7 (3 star) on rivals, which I think is a little low. I think he falls somewhere between the two. In my opinion he's a solid 4 star prospect. I think I'm probably in the minority on that, at least on VN, but I think he's going to be a good player IF he picks bama, he is exactly what you want in a NT in the 3-4. But I don't think he will be nearly as good in the 4-3 if he ended up choosing Kentucky. JMO

I think Rivals has it about right. I agree totally that he will do better at Bama in their 3-4. I hate to see Bama get good players but they get them regardless. Hate to see Kentucky get him too though. I'm kinda torn, but if I had to pick I would rather see him end up at Kentucky in that 4-3...won't do as well in that scheme IMO.

Spot on.

If he's good at Kentucky, it won't really matter, cause they're Kentucky.

If he sucks at Kentucky, par for the course

If he sucks at Bama, they always have other studs.

If he's good at Bama, well, just our luck

i like your logic

my bama neighbor says they are in a numbers crunch and have many five stars in play and may end up taking talent over needs, if that is the case we may have a shot with elam

Well your Bama neighbor is either arrogant and making an excuse in case we miss.. or he is an idiot. Let's face it - all fanbases have plenty of both, haha.

Elam is a huge priority to the staff.... from a needs and a talent standpoint.

Only way we dont get Elam is because we lose to UK on this recruitment.. not because we dont want him.

Matt Elam says he feels more comfortable with UK right now | Kentucky Sports Radio

Matt Elam just finished up his appearance on Kentucky Sports Radio, and there were a few interesting tidbits. While Elam gushed about both Kentucky and Alabama, he spoke about the Cats in a much more personal manner, even dropping the term “we” when speaking about the 2014 class:
“I love Kentucky, I’m from here, I love Coach Stoops, what we have with the commits up there is special, I’ve never seen that before. I’m really close with Drew [Barker] and everybody.”
Elam added that during his official visit to UK a few weeks ago, none of the 2014 commits pressured him or bugged him about committing because “everybody just knows and feels comfortable in knowing that I’m going to come to UK.”
Of course, it’s best not to read too much into an 18-year-old’s choice of words, and he also spoke glowingly of Alabama, mentioning the history, the chance to win a National Championship, and the troubling comment that his mother really likes the Tide. However, he added that he feels more comfortable with the UK program, staff, and recruits right now, and still doesn’t know if he’s going to take an official visit to Alabama before his decision on January 4th.
When asked to describe the difference between Mark Stoops and Nick Saban, Elam said that he likes both coaches, but feels like he could have a “more personal relationship” with Stoops because “he’s down to Earth,” whereas Saban is more business-like. I can’t understand how he could get that impression (ha).
Elam, who has obviously enjoyed all parts of the recruiting process, praised both Kentucky and Alabama fans, calling the Big Blue Nation “phenomenal,” but added that even when he goes to Alabama, the fans there know him too.

Thanks Brian , I'm interested in his recruitment cause I don't want him to go to ala
