Well your Bama neighbor is either arrogant and making an excuse in case we miss.. or he is an idiot. Let's face it - all fanbases have plenty of both, haha.
Elam is a huge priority to the staff.... from a needs and a talent standpoint.
Only way we dont get Elam is because we lose to UK on this recruitment.. not because we dont want him.
Matt Elam says he feels more comfortable with UK right now | Kentucky Sports Radio
Matt Elam just finished up his appearance on Kentucky Sports Radio, and there were a few interesting tidbits. While Elam gushed about both Kentucky and Alabama, he spoke about the Cats in a much more personal manner, even dropping the term we when speaking about the 2014 class:
I love Kentucky, Im from here, I love Coach Stoops, what we have with the commits up there is special, Ive never seen that before. Im really close with Drew [Barker] and everybody.Elam added that during his official visit to UK a few weeks ago, none of the 2014 commits pressured him or bugged him about committing because everybody just knows and feels comfortable in knowing that Im going to come to UK.
Of course, its best not to read too much into an 18-year-olds choice of words, and he also spoke glowingly of Alabama, mentioning the history, the chance to win a National Championship, and the troubling comment that his mother really likes the Tide. However, he added that he feels more comfortable with the UK program, staff, and recruits right now, and still doesnt know if hes going to take an official visit to Alabama before his decision on January 4th.
When asked to describe the difference between Mark Stoops and Nick Saban, Elam said that he likes both coaches, but feels like he could have a more personal relationship with Stoops because hes down to Earth, whereas Saban is more business-like. I cant understand how he could get that impression (ha).
Elam, who has obviously enjoyed all parts of the recruiting process, praised both Kentucky and Alabama fans, calling the Big Blue Nation phenomenal, but added that even when he goes to Alabama, the fans there know him too.
He's always been going to Kentucky no matter what. His mother wont let him go anywhere else. But IMO he's a bad fit for a 4-3. Much better suited as a NG in a 3-4. Then again I've said all along he's incredibly overrated. Read the Rivals evaluation of him, I agree with everything they said about it.

I think if coaches expect him to be more than just a space eater then they will be asking for too much. I agree he is definitely best suited as a 3-4 NG. I don't know if there is to many observers that think otherwise, the kid is 350 lbs. I don't think Bama losing Elam will be as bad as TideWarriors believes mainly because Frazier is a NG and is actually considered better nationally. They also have Smith committed. So that's 4 true NGs going into next year not including Kirven and Robinson who can slide to NG during passing downs.
Ah, Korren Kirven...sure would be nice to have him on our roster right now. Another recruit that we finished second for and left us hanging on NSD.
