'14 KY QB Drew Barker

Coaches would accept Barker's commitment if he called today, imo.

I have to agree with that. No way would they slow play a top 10 QB. With that in mind, I don't think Barker is seriously considering Tennessee any longer. It's a USCe/UK battle for him.

Ron is correct. Charlie High had those type numbers in about 3 games and a quarter. :p

Our attention has turned to Cornwell and Kizer IMO. They're much better prospects. I think we end up with Cornwell when it's all said and done.

I know it's not the popular vote but, I don't think we get any of the 3. I would guess Barker to UK, Corn to bama, and Kizer will wait it out and if Watson sticks with Clemson as I think he does, Kizer will get an offer from OSU and take it.

Doubting Butch? Not wise, my friend.

I had a post typed out where I agreed about us looking at Kizer and Cornwell, and that Barker likes KY/SC AND that he's just as good at Kizer/Cornwell.

I also typed that I thought we get 0 of the 3. But you beat me to it.

I think Butch is proving to be a hell of a coach and recruiter. I was one of the few on here who always had his name in my 3-4 coaches I felt would be hired. I don't doubt his recruiting ability, I just think taking 2 elite 11 QBs last year is going to seriously hurt our chances of landing a top rated one this year. I may be wrong, and hope I am. I will stick with what I said last week and say Nick Tensing will be the guy after the others choose to go elsewhere.

Nick Tensing???? Please tell me your not talking about the QB from St X. No freaking way Tennessee would ever consider taking him. St X does a horrible job of developing QB's. They always have. He regressed as the season went on last year. He's a borderline MAC level talent at best.

He must know the kid or something. Trying to get him here. I'd rather not take a QB if we have to fall down to that level.

I was thinking the same thing. I've seen this kid play since junior high. He is not even remotely close to being an SEC level talent.

That would be who I am talking about. I understand there are better QBs out there for the 2014 class. My feeling is that most of them are not going to choose to come to Tennessee with where we are in our QB situation. If the staff is going to take a QB in this class, then I think it will be a lower rated project type IF they get one. Tensing is 6'4, 200lbs, threw for 2000+ yards, runs well, and plays some pretty good competition. He has visited UT and has interest. That and his film makes me think he would be a possible candidate to take the spot this year. Maybe we get a higher rated kid, maybe we don't.

I think there is a better chance of Devin Smith blowing up and us taking a QB like him over Tensing...jmo tho.

Why do you think our QB situation is going to scare away a QB?

I dont know why any QB would be scared over Tennessee's QB situation. It's as good a situation for a high school QB as you'll find at this level.

As for Tensing, I saw him in about 4 games last year and he just doesnt have SEC talent IMO. I'd save the scholarship for sure or use it elsewhere if that is what the QB spot came down to. As of right now I think he is a borderline D1 talent. He's had the luxury of always playing for teams with superior talent surrounding him so some of his stats IMO are misleading and not representative of his talent level. And the next QB St X actually properly prepares for college will be the first. He really doesnt run well at all. I know he had 200 yards rushing or whatever but he is very slow footed and he runs way to high. One hit on the practice field in college and he's done for. I dont think he can make all the throws either. His arm strength always appeared average to me for a high school QB.

I think Worley wins the job this year. I think there is a good chance both Ferguson and Dobbs redshirts. I tend to think a QB would look at that and think, "Do I want to go to Tennessee where they have (2) elite11 QBs having a year in the system already and both with 4 years to play"? I think the 2 QBs that could come in and compete from day 1 with any QB we have is Cornwell and Barker. I think they both favor other schools right now. After them, I think a lot of other QBs in this class would not be interested in coming to UT and hoping Dobbs/Ferguson flop or transfer so they would have a shot. I could be wrong and QBs start lining up to be a VOL. With us being #2 or #3 it seems for a lot of our QB targets, speaks to it may play out as I expect.

He actually rushed for 500+ yards last season. Of the highlights I saw, he was running away from DBs. One run was 60+ yards. If he is slow, those around him were in quicksand then.

The way they looked in the Spring game Dobbs/Ferguson have a great chance to come in and be the starter

I guess if they have that mentality they won't be playing at the majority of SEC programs. Elite QB's do not worry about competition. Unless you're Gunner Kiel.. and well look at how that has worked out for him thus far.

I agree if they can pick up the speed of the game quickly. I think Dobbs has a better ability to pick up the playbook fast, but Ferguson is a winner and will make a solid bid as well. As far as the spring game goes, it's unfair at this point to judge due to the wr's (or lack of) that played in the game. The fact that neither Worley or Peterman won the spot this spring will definitely make for an interesting summer.
