'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

Ok, I have been out a while today. Had not noticed where he is for sure in the 2014 class with a scholarship. Last I read was it was possible dependent upon our numbers.

yeah, but we wont know that until after the season more than likely. so as of right now he is a 2014 schollie player. so this still brings up the visiting issue.

Here is the way I see it. If we are turning away Truitt, and players of that caliber, are we going to fill up? I have to think we are. Someone flips the night before NSD, we could have an issue. Then the question switches to do we take Dews, or a Kinlaw, or another kid who seems to be waiting on the staff to make a decision on them. I could see 3-4 kids willing to flip to us come NSD if the coaches made a call to them as a spot came open late.

Either way, will be fun to watch till NSD. I think Dews would be allowed to take other visits and IMO, there is a VERY good chance we fill up and his options are a grey shirt to UT or a ship to one of the other schools he visited. If the staff can not promise him a scholarship today, they have to let him take other trips.

If the guy showed out at camp, and the coaches like him, that's good enough for me. I bet he has a great senior season, and beasts out in the rankings. I haven't said anything negative about the pick-up, but I was skeptical at first. I trust this staffs scouting abilities. Glad we finally have a real coaching staff. Go Vols!

Well Sir you just lost your 20, all you good Vols fans that say you dont want him, obviously are not among the the Vols Coaching Staff so your opinion of him is irrelevant, and to answer some of your related questions, that 5.47 was ran as a freshman at a Nike camp, he ran 4.6 at the Vols one day camp on the 15th of June, and was clearly the best OLB at the camp according to your beloved Vols Coaches, so i say to you fine gentlemen lets this play out and then have your opinion when it is all said and done, thanks for your ear! (Speaking of Jerome Dews of course!)

1st of all...I'm late to the party but congratulations!

But don't take any negative comment you read on here personally. A lot of people on here (myself included) can only really go by the recruiting services rating of a player or by his offer list as that is the only information we as fans have to go by. Which may be why some posters on here are skeptical of this commitment. But in this case I'm going to (and think we all should) trust our coaching staff as they have shown themselves to be great recruiters and evaluators of talent in the time that they've been here. There are already a few instances where UT was the first "big time" school/coaching staff to offer a player only for other "big time" schools to follow suit shortly after and this could very well be the next example of that.

Dews came to camp and showed out in front of our coaches. They didn't go by the evaluations (or lack thereof) of the recruiting sites or of other coaching staffs like we as fans do. They went by what they saw with their own eyes while he went up against other top notch players. And that evaluation should be the one that impresses/tells us the most about what type of ability the young man truly has. He preformed so well that he earned an offer first hand with all of our coaches watching him compete against other highly rated/great players and with the pressure that comes along with those things on his shoulders.

I completely trust and support our coaching staff's decision. I'm happy for the young man and I'm excited to watch him for the next four years. Please keep us updated with any information you have as many of us greatly appreciate it!

Play devils advocate for a moment --- just because he's not a 4* or 5*, Top 247, and on everyone's radar doesn't mean he won't be by NSD. If he continues to camp well and has a SR season that picks up where his JR yr left off his stock / star status will rise as will the attention he receives.

The lad is just 16, most recruits are 17 or older for the '14 class. He hits a growing spurt this yr he could easily arrive on campus 6'5 or 6'6 and 230+. Add Dave Lawson's S&C program to the agility, athleticism, flexibility, instinct and quickness that caught Jones' attention @ camp and ...

Boom, DT problem solved.

1.)Recruit the best athletes.

2.)Mold them into real football players.

Like the pickup here. Low risk/high reward.

He's obviously athletic with tremendous up side. If he's as classy as his father has been on here, he's definitely worth a scholarship.

Not sure I could be as classy and objective if it were my kid in this discussion.

Kudos sir.

I think Dominique Booth falls into this category as well.

There is nothing to. ask, we are locked in, I don't know the rules of Vols coaches as far as going on other officials but it really dosent matter, B Jones took a shot in the dark and we stand by that, we know Jerome can ball so its not that suprising to us maybe it is to some of you, but those coaches showed loyalty when we talked to them, and that's what we are about, he may take all the visits he wants (5) but at the end of the day, we roll with Jones and The Thig, and I'm sorry I used roll, to close to well yall know! He's a Vol, and that is all!!!!!

:good!:

To catch the eye of the head coach of an SEC program must be every kids dream that comes to a camp as a virtual unknown. Happy for this kid and glad he's a vol.

Makings of the next hit blockbuster movie. The next step is to start at that SEC school.
