'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

I've said it before, I wasn't overly impressed with his film. When I watch other commits films I see their outstanding talent. His just didn't do it for me. I'd rather add a more talented player than take him.

Oh well that settles it then - mdrew27 > entire coaching staff

Lots of talk about grey shirts but it's not happening. In the last 10 years I can think of 2 grey shirts. Tino Thomas and Britton Colquitt. And BC was a legacy punter who was local and in a perfect situation to GS because we already had Dustin punting.

Why would we tell a player to grey shirt and not enroll in our current huge class, and then enroll in next years small class? Doesn't make sense.

This kid is a Vol.

Butch has already greyshirted someone. Swafford

Damn. Most of you guys are just freaking brutal. It's no wonder most posters avoid starting a thread. It feels like you guys sit behind your keyboards waiting for a chance to pounce on somebody.

For the record, I think the OP's argument is fair. And his reasoning for starting a new thread instead of burying it in the Dew thread is also valid. Mods will merge at some point but the argument will get some good visibility until they do.

You guys need to lighten up. Geez.

Swafford was going to gray shirt but he wanted the chance to play this fall so he walked on instead.

Right. I wondered if swafford saw what was happening in recruiting and thought that walking on was smart choice because it allowed him to get foot ahead of '14 class.

Butch still greyshirted him. Swafford just decided to walk on instead

Jones intended to greyshirt him. Once he chose to walk on and attend classes, greyshirting was no longer an option.

Dude just wanted to play ball. He's been a great surprise. Lots of heart.

Alright guys, so I have some brand-new, totally unheard-of breaking information...

Jerome Dews plays football.

Can anyone confirm this??!

I asked him on Twitter:

Jerome Dews‏@_Romeyyyy26m
@GoodandBadnews I really don't know. Just know whatever they put me at it'll be a show

I think this guy will be a player...I think Dews and Emmanuel Mosely are going to make a name for themselves

please dont contact the recuits unless you are only saying "Go Vols"

IF Dews has been told he would have a scholarship, I hope he does and can sign a LOI on NSD with the 2014 class.

IF he has been told a GS is a possibility by the staff, I almost think it should be a GS or he looks elsewhere. We are in alot of top talent who could play alot sooner than Dews would IMO. I understand the project aspect and the high ceiling people feel the kid has. With the LBs we are in on for the 2014/2015 classes, not sure a 2 year project is a take right now. He would still be part of the 2015 class as a GS. Not sure he would be a take over the 2015 guys who seem to be very pro Vol right now. JMO

The constant conjecture about greyshirting blows for this kid. I hope he doesn't read it but I can't keep myself away so I doubt he can.

I hope he comes to UT and serves a Neyland-sized helping of crow.

Ok, question:

Is it "gray shirt" or "grey shirt"? I've been spelling it gray shirt but most are spelling it "grey".

I think its one of those rare occasions where both spellings are deemed correct. I can't remember which is which, but I think one is more common in the states and the other one is more common in other English speaking countries such as Great Britain.

Funny you should ask. I just looked that up myself. I've always been taught "grey," however it appears this is the UK spelling and "gray" is the American-English spelling. To each his own, I guess.

You Swansoned me to it.
