'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

VolnJC....what you're not understanding is that there is no quote in that article where Dews says he'll be a WR. That's what wU is pointing out. Yes, the writer of the article visited with Dews and wrote what he wrote but there is no quote directly from Dews saying he's going to play WR. Example: "UT is wanting me to play WR now" - Jerome Dews. That doesn't exist in that article. Understand the difference?

I think you guys are wanting to read something else..the article says "he has since been told" why in the world would a writer just throw that into a story? If he plays LB he will be the tallest LBer since Ted Hendricks to play the position..I'll mark this thread and throw it out again in a couple of years.

Why would Hubbs just throw it out there he will be a LB?

“@_Romeyyyy: I WILL NOT GREYSHIRT!!!! #VolNation”

“@_Romeyyyy: Better get that out there wayyyyy better den some GREYSHIRT”

In case we weren't getting the message...

The timing of this tweet is interesting. People on here have been talking about him greyshirting ever since he committed. Now he makes the proclamation after he gets an offer from Purdue? (For the record, I have never said he will or should greyshirt)

I thought that at first too, but Jerome's dad posted on here after he committed and said it was a full ride offer Jerome committed to. Interesting point though.

I remember that. Maybe his frustration with Volnation had just boiled over. I personally hope he ends up here and balls out.

I asked him on Twitter:

Jerome Dews‏@_Romeyyyy26m
@GoodandBadnews I really don't know. Just know whatever they put me at it'll be a show

I think this guy will be a player...I think Dews and Emmanuel Mosely are going to make a name for themselves

I'd rather not have any grayshirts, because I believe that cuts into how many people we can sign the following year. It's the opposite of back-counting.
Theoretically, recruiting for the '15 Class could be easier for the staff, because of the success they are having on the field so far this season and the longer period of time to develop relationships. If we're gray-shirting someone so that we can add a superstar who can help right away without having to turn away a committed player, then perhaps it's worth it. Otherwise, I'd rather be able to sign a full class next year.
And, if we do grayshirt someone, I hope it's worked out early on and not a signing-day surprise for the guy.

He is a guy I have a filling most will regret for not signing him. Not saying his as good as Patrick Willis but for some reason I believe he could be a surprise player.

I said earlier in the season that I would wear a Tim Tebow carat from NSD to 2014 opening day if he grey shirted with us. Glad that's looking impossible now. Just hope we keep him.

Dude will get some more late offers that will make it impossible for us to defer signing him, if that was ever even a consideration, which I'm not sure I believe.

The amount of talent and momentum we have in this class makes it easier to lose any given prospect but I really like any player who puts up these numbers and hasn't been in a quality S&C program yet.

I look forward to Dews playing at UT. I also want all of the other commits to sign.

With that said, it will be interesting to see how things shake out between now and NSD. Between the needs at DL, some key recruits that are high on UT (and major wants among the staff and UT fans) and the Berry brothers, something will have to give.

What's your point?

That's the post where his dad said no gray shirt.

Edit: assuming that was his dad. sure seemed like it. Also, someone (Maybe you?) posted a link to an article that said that initial conversation was about a gray shirt, but after evaluation, offer was made.

Sorry, wasn't me. In post 263 his dad (or whoever) responded to me and said it was a full ride when I had said no one had reported yet what type of offer it was.
