'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

He was 200 lb a few posts ago... what gives? Look at the photo of him from his visit the other day...

LB? In the SEC? RIIIIGHT. You're not going to put 45 lbs on the frame and still maintain the athleticism thay earned his scholly to begin with. I've been wrong before (believe it or not).
Raynoch Thompson wasn't much bigger when he signed....turned out well for us. So, there you go.

Kids coming out of HS are still going through a growth spurt.

Am I happy to argue this point? No, i'm glad he's VFL (even though he's considering visiting Purdue...) and hope he turns into an all-american while at UT but the odds are against him. Sure, it may come across a little douche'ish but that's not my intention.

Let's not forget what started this pissing match... I said (after seeing the photo below) "Looks small... no way he plays a down at UT as a LB. Looks like a WR" and somehow that was interpreted that I think he's POS MF'ing MF'er. Overreact much?

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PHOTO? Kid looks tiny (for a SEC LB)... that's not opinion, it's a FACT. I was not hating on the kid... just making an observation... then MDO (who's either his pops or some creepy vol fan) got his feelings hurt and "owned" me. lol. Then the vol-mob started jumping on his sack and the rest is history. Sooo hate to layeth the smack down but you guys were asking for it. I don't like having to do this, but sometimes it's necessary to humble people every now and again.

inb4 mdo owns me again... :hi: :peace2:

UT's#102,456fan...... The one never allowed in the building got his feewings hurt and is now attacking a 17 yr old. Your the coolest cat in town now

This is where the art of recruiting comes in.
Ever wonder why some programs perform well but aren't landisng top 10 classes? It's development.

Being able to see, based on age, body type, etc. What a kid will look like in two years is a big deal. This killed Fulmer in the end. IMO he landed guys that were done. They'd stopped growing and what you saw as seniors in HS was basically it. Remember Patrick Willis? You think he looked like he does now as a 17 yo recruit? Nope. Fulmer landed higher ranked guys but they had already reached their prime. Noah who played b-ball at UF is a great example of a late bloomer.

Anyway, there is something this staff has seen that they think will look really good in orange down the road. Dews just turned 17 in November. He should really be a junior. Sept. Is usually the cut off.

Overreact much? I like having to do this.

I'm sure that UT and everyone connected to UT would be extremely happy for you not to be a fan. You should really consider switching to Candy because you fit into their fan base much better. You're not a Vol fan. JMO

He's a year younger than Curt Maggitt as a HS senior and the same size. Maybe he'll grow into a LB and maybe he won't, but to say he can't is just incorrect.

still ignoring the facts i see.

a ton of SEC LBs start out at his size. he is a year younger than the rest of the kids in his class. you seem to think that outside LBs have to be 240+ to succeed in the SEC, when our MLB who will be a senior is 243. and one of VNs favorites, JRM is only 210. not many LBs come out of HS at 240+. the kid will gain weight

No he thinks they need to be 220 to 240 at 17 in high school to be SEC linebackers. And yes, he is still ignoring the facts. Many SEC linebackers and even defensive ends were around 200 when they had just turned 17 in high school. No way he is this stupid, has to be on pupose.

Great teams don't play pure freshmen at LB in the SEC. Part of the reason we have not won many conference games lately is because we have had to do that.

You need to get them in and develop them. JMO and it is better than dumb UT1fan.

One last thing I heard last night was that he might visit Purdue. Wild how MDO has not been in here since visit.

Could be because of that or staff maybe telling him not to give out info on here.

You don't see MZ T much anymore either.

Dews had a killer highlight tape, and he's clearly an athlete with the potential to grow. But, dude who's arguing with everyone has a fair point about his current size. Unless he gets wider through the chest and shoulders, which is certainly possible at his age, it's going to be difficult for him to put on that much weight.

The size debate is fair if done in a tasteful way and that isn't the case here.

I would be curious to know MDobserver size. It's a pretty darn good predictor for an 18-22 year olds ability to change their body

He could end up at 230 with his current frame. He can easily put on more weight in his legs. He looks like one of those wiry guys who are strong and slim.

Not always. I have found a lot of time boys tend to follow after their moms and girls tend to follow their dads. Not a scientific observation but something I've noticed. I married a relatively short gal at 5' 3" and I'm relatively tall at 6'-3". My daughter is about 5' 7" at 19 YO and my son is on the short side for his age at 14. Now as to weight, I did have trouble gaining weight even though I ate everything in sight but unfortunately, that caught up with me. :)

MzT lurks and reads the board. I think she just chooses to not post much anymore. It is a little interesting that MDO hasn't posted since the middle of the visit on Saturday.

I trust the coaches have a plan for this young man, and obviously see something they like or they wouldn't offered. This isn't Dooleys staff recruiting , there not jut throwing around scholly offers hopin one will be a break out diamond in the rough. Calm down and step away from the computer for a while the COACHES got dis.

I should have said both parents are worth considering when discussing the growth potenial of young adults

wow... you have cojones... it's only a matter of time before the mob comes after you.

I'm not saying this to be smart but I wish you guys would quit responding to #1douche. At least stop quoting him. The site would be better off if EVERYONE would ignore this troll.
