'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

still ignoring the facts i see.

a ton of SEC LBs start out at his size. he is a year younger than the rest of the kids in his class. you seem to think that outside LBs have to be 240+ to succeed in the SEC, when our MLB who will be a senior is 243. and one of VNs favorites, JRM is only 210. not many LBs come out of HS at 240+. the kid will gain weight

I guess the fact that even the top 30 OLB's in the country all weigh 230+ has nothing to do with their success. Can Dews put weight on his frame? Yes. But don't pretend that your physical size has no bearing on succeeding at the position, especially in the conference. Also, a ton of kids DO come out of HS already at 215+, being at 200lbs puts Dews in the small minority of prospects at 200 and under. And by that I mean, maybe 7 other guys going to D1 schools weigh less out of 300+ prospects.

How many of them don't turn 18 until the end of this year?

Im assuming those 230lb LBs youre talking about are in college and have already been through S&C.

Look at this guy. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Curt-Maggitt-93573

6'3" 195 lbs coming out of HS.
Currently listed on our roster at 6'3" 239. He just happens to play the same position as Dews

Does Dillon Bates weigh 230/240 pounds? Not seeing many complaints about him...Sure, he's over 200, but he's also not 17 and planning on Grey/Red shirting either I'm sure. Dews will be just fine by the time the staff is ready for him to contribute on the field IMO.

if you take a look at the Rivals250 there are about 10 4* LBs listed at 210lbs or less.

Exactly. And just for fun, how old was Dillon in May of 2012? Because that's when Jmoore made his thread and he was listed at exactly 6'3 195 lbs.

I'm def not concerned about Dews at all. Especially as a grey shirt and then potential red shirt candidate. Pretty confident in this staffs ability to develop him in the best way they see fit.

For the record gents i am Jerome's step dad,He thanked me for stepping into his life when he first commited, he has been with me for 10 years, his real father passed when Jerome was 3yrs old, his mother is 6'2, his grandfather is 6'4, his mother and i and especially the coaching staff are the least worried about Jerome growing, i have worked with Jerome since he was 7yrs years old, and I am no way concerned about his work ethic, i know how hard he works, when Jerome put on weight as a youngster he just stretched out, he puts on weight in no time and from what i seen from Ms Mauer the team nutritionist we might have to worry about him blowing up to a DT(Joke) but you get my drift.

You're pretty bada$$ and it's obvious that Jerome is lucky to have you in his life.

MDO we appreciate what you bring to the board. We are always curious of how life is to be a recuruits parent. Thanks for posting and don't let anyone run you off. I'm glad your son is a Vol. His film is pretty legit, I think we have a real dimoand in the rough. GBO!

Used to hear a lot of "Poooooooole" when Tauren Poole had a good run. Was thinking David Oku got some "Okuuuuuuuuuu" as well. I feel very confident that if Jerome plays matchmaker between opposing players and the turf, Neyland will reward him.

MDO, what weight is Jerome up to now? I saw him this weekend and he looks thicker through the legs than he did in his senior film

I am so glad you post. You are educating some of our more opinionated, but less informed posters of the real world. There are really good reasons our staff wanted Jerome early in the process. I am thankful you stepped into his life - well done! Really looking forward to seeing him play, graduate, and being a VFL!
