Jerome Dews ‏@_RomeHEEM 1m
In home visit with Rutgers tomorrow ❗️
I wouldn't blame him either way as well. Tbh I'm not sure a full ride now to Rutgers is any worse or better of an offer to GS in Knoxville. If you're thinking of how to get to the league, I wouldn't even consider Rutgers if I was him. He might not be thinking that way though. We survived Purdue offering, lets watch this play out...I would guess Dews did not grow up a Vol fan. I fully understand him falling in love with what he heard and then saw when he visited UT. Tennessee and its campus is easy to fall in love with. The fans are as die hard as any in college football. With that said, if the options are GS to Tennessee or a full scholarship now to a very good school, no way to blame the kid for taking the free ride. Interesting to see how it plays out.
If it was me I'd go to Rutgers if it meant getting a full scholarship. I hate that though for us though. Also, (unrelated) I really hope this guy becomes a great player one day just so he can get an endorsement deal with Mountain Dew. I can see the commercial now - "Doing the Dews" or "You can pay me in Dews." I know its terrible but its still a work in progress.
The thing is he will get a full scholly here, just next year. He would likely RS there anyways. There's an argument either way though. His family will make the best decision for them. FWIW Rutgers hasn't offered yetIf it was me I'd go to Rutgers if it meant getting a full scholarship. I hate that though for us though. A sure scholarship means a lot and it should IMO. Say he accepts the GS and this time next year he has not added weight like the coaches hoped? What if he has not progressed as expected? I'm in no way saying he can't, just making a point. What if the scholarship that was supposed to come after a GS year does not come? I'm pretty sure there is nothing in writing saying it's a guarantee. I think it's a big risk for a recruit to accept a GS, especially one coming in labeled a project. I know a scholarship may not be a sure renewed thing every year, but at least you know you have 1 walking in the door.

You just have to trust the coaches that they will keep the deal. Also fwiw, I don't think we have a stipulation on weight for him. If he's 210 next year our coaches will still want him IMO...A sure scholarship means a lot and it should IMO. MDObserver From your point of view, does the UT/ VT game in Bristol play into recruiting in any way? I know if I had a chance to be a part of something that big, I would want in.
Likewise, would you be willing to share what your family found to be the biggest high and low points of the recruiting process?
