I hear you. A bachelor's degree is a bachelor's degree, you're right, but one from Stanford or UVA vs. somewhere else depending on the degree, it's a leg up. It's not all about the resume, but those schools offer a lot of nice opportunities, and if you're talking something like CompSci at Stanford, then yeah, it can matter a whole lot.
For graduate level stuff, it's far more program specific to just generalize from one school to the next. You can very easily get a much better graduate degree in a program that one state school specializes in vs. an ivy league school.
