Yes this is true, but saying you shouldn't go to USC because spurrier will be gone in a few years is negative. Showing a USC depth chart would be negative recruiting. Explaining that they will have a dropoff in talent/coaching and we wouldn't is negative recruiting. IMO 80% of the time, if a coach mentions another school, it involves negative recruiting. Obviously I'm no D-1 athlete so this is pure speculation.

Recruits have reported that Butch Jones and staff have not done this. Just what I have heard and read...

VN posters are bashing Spurriers age. However, they are not the UT football staff...no matter what they may tell you :)

Chris Nee just picked UT on the CB. He had USCjr previously.

Comparing depth charts is not negative recruiting IMO, since its evidence available to anyone. Making personal statements about other coaches and players is negative recruiting IMO.

Let's all keep in mind that Scott is a Florida fan. That was his dream offer. I would be VERY impressed with this kid if he does not let his emotions control this decision. Florida is clearly on the decline... so hopefully he'll fall in our lap, but I'm not holding my breath on this one.

@PeteScantlebury: #Mizzou commit Trevon Walters on if the Tennessee offer changes things: "No! Can you let everyone know I'm still Mizzou bound?"

-Mizzou Rivals guy

"I was very surprised," Walters told InsideTennessee. "The running backs coach (Robert Gillespie) had wrote me on Facebook and was like 'Let's talk soon,' or whatever and that was it and like we never spoke again after that. Then, it was the national championship game and that's when they offered me. I was shocked. I never told nobody. I just put it out there."

"No, he hasn't," Walters said of depth chart being brought to his attention by Gillespie. "When he offered me he was just talking about getting me up there on a visit. But, he said he's going to get back with me on that. But, he hasn't gotten back with me."

"Uh, I'm not sure right now," he said.

Well then you're just wrong and dont understand what is negative recruiting and what's not.

If you think UT doesn't negatively recruit against other schools, then you are crazy. Im not saying our coaches work it to the extent of Meyer or Tubberville, but to some extent, every coach explains why their school is better than the other schools.

Yea, you didn't really support your first point AT ALL. Look up Negative Recruiting and you'll see James Franklin all over that page (Von Bell).

Anything is fair game in recruiting.

It's naive to think our staff doesn't do exactly what has to be done to win the game.

Even promising numbers is fair game

I would take the imo out of that

showing a depth chart is just not negative recruiting - it is showing the facts - if the facts happen to favor your school vs. theirs then it is the other staffs job to overcome that hurdle or the kids job to figure out how important that factor really is

but you are not doing your job for your organization if you don't point that out

This means we are in good shape with Scott, if Gillespie hasn't gotten back in touch with him to set up a visit. Nothing earth shattering.

Not sure you know the definition of "negative recruiting"...pumping up your school over others is positive...saying don't go to Columbia because Spurrier answers a goldfish bowl when the phone rings....is negative

Once again, you bring gold.

This is really good. :)

Can you spell "pickled"?

Not sure how I will react seeing fast and explosive players at RB again at Tennessee. Have gotten use to applauding anything that ended with the RB getting a positive gain.

How nice would it be to have a RB that each time he touched the ball, there was a real chance he could take it to the house?

I perfected the art of screaming without sound during the 98 championship (holding baby daughter with flu)...probably have to revamp it :scare:

I did the same thing that night, wife and kids were in bed(they don't get it).

Mr. Scott, you could be the one that makes it happen, or you could go to SC and be the next RB Spurrier runs into the ground and does it to the point that you have no pro future.
Think about that when the old man is sitting drunk in your house.
