'14 OH DE/LB Joseph Henderson (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Not dumb.

If there was one position that we could have afforded to lose a freshman at it's defensive end. Barnett, Vereen, Maggitt, Hendrix, next year Butcher and Taylor. Latroy Lewis, maybe Jackson.

I mean seriously. This isn't a big hit.

Just read that Hendrix may be gone too.

He and Scott werent at practice and the blurb that was posted said that their future with the team was unknown.

Scott can leave if he wants. We have Kamara coming in, plus at least 2 other RB.

I don't want to lose Hendrix.

How do teams build depth with players lIke that?

Hopefully the coaches will relay to them that they are freshmen and as the upperclassmen leave their workload will dramatically increase. Kids have unrealistic expectations sometimes. Hendrix could move inside or even man the other DE spot on obvious running situations. Scott should get plenty of carries next year with a good spring and summer showing. That's why the contract crap needs to get done, so the coaches can earn this extra money they feel they are worth. Time to get to work.

Good post...agree 100%

Makes me scratch my head. Bama has them lined up to sign on when they've got six five stars in front of them. They know they won't see the field for 2 years.

My guess would be that we sell kids on the ability to come in and play early. No promised playing time, but a common theme we keep hearing from these recruits is they like our depth chart and the chance to play early. Obviously not everyone is going to come in and make an instant impact though. I'd say at Bama kids go there knowing the score with how deep most positions are.

That being said, we'll be getting Alvin Kamara because of something similar.

I agree but it's not like he was asked to redshirt. He saw the field. He's got to see his minutes will increase. If he goes to any good team, they'll be good players on that roster too that he'll have to compete with. Not to mention he'll have to sit a year unless he goes juco.

Oh I totally agree. It would be a dumb move for him to transfer IMO. I'm just guessing he was a guy who saw our whole DL leaving after last year and assumed he would play a big role this year. Barnett has been amazing though.

I would love to see him here next year. From the practice reports coming out about him, it sounds like he could rotate with Barnett with minimal dropoff, and they would both be better from staying fresh all game. He could even rotate down to DT on obvious passing downs.

As quick as Barnett is, I think he could move to the other side and Hendrix could play opposite him in certain situations. Having two elite pass rushers in at the same time could be special.

I wouldn't count these guys as gone yet. How many times did we hear how uncertain marlin lane and pig Howard's futures were with the team?

247 reported that CBJ says Henderson is still working on things with the NCAA. I guess he isn't gone yet.
