'14 OH TE/DE Ethan Wolf (UT Commit 4/10/13)

What you have with Wolf is something that you can't find very seldom coming out of high school. A big, strong athletic kid that can run and catch the ball extremely well yet is physical enough to handle SEC defensive ends flyin off the edge. Wolf and the staff compare him a lot with Kelce from UC last year ( 6-5" 260 ) and he is #4 TE on draft boards. Watching his film he has an attitude when he plays as well. To the whistle, finishes blocks, and from his pic he appears to have an awesome frame. I think Wolf picked UT because he wants to come in at 250 and play now. No need to use a year or two to develop a 220lb TE who can just catch and try to bulk him up and be able to block. His one article said I want to be a 3 down TE. He wants to catch, block, and do it all.
I think what I love most about this guy is he just seems like an awesome guy. I think his pictures will b hanging on walls in 5 years.

"There wasn’t anything that stood out that I hadn’t seen," Wolf told InsideTennessee exclusively Wednesday. "They really went all out last time I was here, but it was really reassuring seeing that everything we thought was happening here was actually happening as far as the offense and how they want to use me. I got to see that strength and conditioning too. I actually got to see some of their lift and they said it was what their in-season lift is like. That was cool to see."

"Everything went great," Wolf said. "We got a more thorough tour of what we saw last time we were here since it was family day and there were 700 people here. We got to talk with Coach (Dave) Lawson, the strength coach, and the nutritionist. We got a thorough campus tour and talked with the academic advisor and saw that building. It was awesome."

News of Wolf's declaration spread slowly to commitments but it didn't take long for them to start building a bond with their future teammate. The Ohio native that sported a Tennessee sweatshirt even on his first visit texted IT late Wednesday about how "jacked" he continued to be on how things were going and that he was starting to hear from other members of UT's 2014 class.

Several, including Jalen Hurd, knew next to noting about Wolf heading into the day but that has already started changing quickly. Running back Treyvon Paulk told IT that he reached out to Wolf. Paulk also said he plans to get involved in the recruitment of fellow Georgia-based talent and linebacker Kevin Mouhon, who visited in February.

Basilio's X said in his most recent blog that Wolf may end up being a better OT than a TE. I don't buy it and don't put much stock in anything that guys says anyway. Just sharing it with the board.

Feel free to discuss (or flame) at you leisure.

@Bcountry18 welcome to the family big dude !!!

I'm guessing you guys can figure out who Bcountry is lol

VERY impressed with this guy's blocking technique. Moves his feet well, keeps low to get good leverage, and stays with it til hs man is on the ground. Most of those blocks he threw were straight up pancakes on the defensive end.

*Disclaminer* I'm not trying to start a position switch debate by any means, just mentioning what I read on ESPN in his evaluation.

I know its ESPN so tifwiw, but at his current size if he keeps growing to say 6'8 and adds more weight does his blocking and athleticism make him an option at tackle someday? Say we can land a couple guys like Milan and Helm, I'm just wondering if this is something to think about down the line possibly.

Personally, I think we need his talent at the TE position, I think he could/will be a monster. But he can't control his height and I think his skills could project well in the event he isn't done growing.

I'd rather have a 6'8 te than a 6'8 tackle. My qb has to throw over that 6'8 tackle, so it's a disadvantage for a tackle to be too tall.

It's happened before. What's his name out of Maryville was going to be NFL tackle, but originally came here to play te.

I just think this guy looks to smooth running and catching to move.

It happens all the time.

Big money in being an athletic LT.

Usually tackles aren't the guys you throw over though: they just protect the edge.

Johnathon Ogden made a good living at a 6'9" LT

He's the exception not to rule. I don't think growing to 6'8 has anything to do with becoming an OT.

Now, if he weighs in at 290, that's a different story.

He will be good at either, kid has supreme athletic ability for his size. I'm wanting him to stay at TE, Jason Witten clone, nice hands, runs routes like a boss. Blocking is top notch, if and only if we don't get what we want or a couple OL would I like them to consider it. Really think he can be an excellent TE, our system suits him perfect

Not putting anything on the kid this early, but the way he runs and sets up for passes reminds me of Witten

That's what I'm saying butchna, if all goes well this kid has the potential to be a great player

The kid has good hands but the thing that stands out most of all watching his film is that he has very good blocking technique. He drives through the defender 5-7 yards off the line. Very impressive.

It's all good, we just are on the same page with this one! GreAt Vols think a like. I can already picture the 5-10 yard catches in the middle for first down and the seam route for TDs, kid will be good!

A recent Tennessee commit, Wolf looks like he'll develop nicely into the type of player that can block and catch passes at the next level. He's not going to blow anyone away with his speed, but he knows how to use his body to get open. The key for him will be to work on consistency catching the ball.
