Ohio State and Notre Dame weren't average. C'mon now. They were good teams. Not elite, but good.

Which is just more proof how desperately a playoff is needed. Two average midwest teams playing for a national title would have been a joke. I'm no Bama fan by any means but they would have destroyed OSU just like they did ND.

I couldn't agree more.

Had OSU not been on probation, they would have been in the championship game against ND. Bama wouldn't leap 2 undefeated teams. Just sayin'

bama would have beat both of those teams simultaneously or back to back :)

And LSU had them beat till a last minute TD pass. Ala is definitely beatable. They were very close to having 3 losses last yr.

That is my point. Bama was beatable.....but against SEC competition only... Not two average midwest teams, one who played an absolute joke of a schedule. 5 -6 teams in the SEC alone could have gone undefeated with OSU's schedule last year.

It's ridiculous that the NCAA lets them get away with that schedule.. Almost makes me want some sort of rpi ranking like bball.

Totally agree with you there. It's hard to believe a school going undefeated with that schedule would ever be considered over a 1 loss SEC team for a slot in the national championship game. I'm all for an 8 team playoff. The more slots the better from an SEC standpoint when you have to compete for slots with teams like that who play absolutely nobody.

ND had to go three overtimes with Pitt. Ole Miss, a very average SEC team, absolutely smoked Pitt in a bowl. ND would have lost 3 to 5 games with an SEC schedule. Same goes for the Buckeyes.

My bad guys, I hadn't checked the thread in a bit. As of this week Vols still lead comfortably. OSU a distant 2nd and now louisville a distant 3rd. Sc not in top three. Tennessee will be his last stop on the college camp tour they do at his school.

I listened to Bill Hancock on WNSP radio here in Mobile this morning. He is the first executive director of the Bowl Championship Series and is also the first executive director of the new college football playoff. In his interview, they asked him point blank if an 8 team playoff would be better than having a 4 team playoff and his answer was that "4 is the right number for college football". The commissoners decided to keep the focus on the regular season rather than making it shorter and putting the emphasis on an after season playoff. He did say that the committee will be made of 14-20 "football experts" which will decide the 4 teams that will vie for a National Championship. So, the 8 team playoff does not appear to be on the horizon any time soon. Personally, I would like to eliminate all the "bowls" and make them into playoff games. The playoff games could still be named a "bowl" but would allow teams that advance to make additional funds with each additional playoff/bowl victory. Just my $0.02.

I agree. I figured they'd go with 4 teams but the more teams in a playoff the better it would be for the SEC IMO. Many years 3 of the Top 4 teams in the country are in the SEC alone. A 4 team playoff is obviously better than the setup now (which would have pitted an average ND and average OSU team in the title game), but it's not ideal from an SEC standpoint.
