Passing on a recruit does not always work out. Hopefully in this case it does. If I were Ford, it would be tough to hear there is no longer room at DT, yet there are no DTs committed publicly. Hope it works out better than situations like passing on AJ Turman as "we had bigger fish on the line". If a kid is not willing to go public, I would not count them as a commitment. Saving commitments and having them commit later to try and ease the pain of a loss as some have suggested, is just pathetic IMO. Most fans who follow recruiting have a pretty good idea of how this class is going to end up recruit wise. Those who don't, won't care/have any clue who committed anyway. If we are turning away 4 star DTs now, the coaches better hope the kids they think they have on board stick. I would be taking commitments of kids ready to go NOW and willing to shut down their recruitment.
If we have 5 players committed in August the staff isn't recruiting well -- if the staff has 20+ committed in August they are moving too fast and passing up on talent.
We are in a good spot right now folks, and we should be extremely happy and proud of that. We can speculate who has what spot and so on, but we've trusted them up to this point and they haven't disappointed. Until they do so, have some faith.
BrentOn Poona, it's not just Tennessee. His stock has fallen with South Carolina as well. Remember, Tennessee saw him in person at camp and has slowed down on him since then back in June. Most believe he's just too small to play in this league. I think there are some on and off the field questions around Williams where Tennessee just wasn't ready to do something with him right now. WIth Humphreys, I think the coaches just may not be on high on him as Rivals is.
I find it hard to believe, but that's the feeling that's out there. Ford's height (barely 6-0) is scaring teams. Something happened with Williams. I was really feeling Tennessee with him after his last visit here. And we will see what's up with Humphries.
