'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

He doesn't have to cover like Adoree. He's no PrimeTime either. If you like Nate Clements, Dee Miliner, Chris Gamble, Mike Rumph(in college), Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, or any of those long rangy CBs you'll like Gaulden at CB. He doesn't have to be just ridiculous in coverage when you're the type of player he is. Also I know for a fact guys like Joe Haden and Miliner didn't even play CB in HS. They didn't turn out so bad did they. If you put him at FS and he's too aggressive we'll have to pull him out of the game for blowing coverages. So what makes you think I can't settle him down by putting a WR in his face and saying "This is your man if you blow the coverage looking into the backfield all game you're getting pulled". He'll be fine because he wants to be on the field. Also CWM sees him as a CB too. He can come right in and play there. His tool set is tailor made for the position. I've stated before I'd rather have him be a big CB than an average sized safety. Especially when we have two equal level players coming in at safety.

Run support is important. But every corner doesnt have to be like Richard Sherman or Brandon Browner. Just naming some UT guys theres Jabari Greer, Johnathan Wade, Jason Allen. Berry played some corner. Janzen played some corner. Then guys like Terry Fair, Terry McDaniel. I like the big corners, but the fact of the matter is that if the WR gets off the press they're probably beat.

Then theres champ Bailey, Pac man Jones, Terrence Newman, Deion Sanders, Antonio Cromartie, Deltha Oneal, Asante Samuel

I'm a chargers fan. And from personal experience. I like to have a Field corner like Quentin Jammer and a Boundary Corner like Antonio Cromartie.

It doesn't really matter who's better in the end of the recruiting process anyway. If Adoree wants in, he gets in, no matter if there's someone better than him at one position, he is still a great slot reciever and a definite Wildcat QB candidate. He is just a down right playmaker.

Why would I compare a big fast DB like Gaulden to Greer? Jason Allen is the closest one but he may be a better athlete than Allen too(saying a lot there too). I never liked Jammer a lot personally. I liked the old OSU CBs like Chris Gamble and Nate Clements. Or a small CB playing like Antoine Winfield. I'm a fan of my whole defense hitting you in the mouth.

I was a huge Fred Smoot fan back in the day

I'd love to have 2 shutdown corners like Bama / LSU and blitz you from every angle while I play man to man with 1 safety over top.

That boy would talk and talk and talk!

He always got in receivers' heads.

Didn't work too well for him in the NFL. He was usually talking to them as they were running by him.

But he was the best in the league at dancing around after a big hit when the play had already gained 8 yards and his team was down two touchdowns. He then left and passed the torch for that to Deangelo Hall.

Lol I know. I was like 10. He got punked out a lot in the nfl. Still liked him though

Glad you can see read what I posted easily. VHIII had college level coaching for a while. He's almost like a robot with how he plays.

Kirby I never said Jackson wasn't a five star prospect at CB. I just said as a DB prospect Gaulden is a better prospect to ME. He's vastly underrated and easily compares to former 5 star Dee Miliner athletically. Except he's already hitting coming out of HS. Miliner wasn't anywhere near as physical in HS. I don't know why you think I'm taking a jab at a kid if I say he'll have some trouble with bigger WRs. He's 5'8-5'9(remember he was shorter than the reported 5'11)what CB that size doesn't have trouble with the much bigger WRs in jump ball situations especially.

On Wharton I said Adoree was better than the kid so what are you talking about there?
I brought up the fact that he is 5 star "CB" because you kept referencing him as an athlete instead of a CB. He is 5'9 3/4", yes I'm well aware. JMO, but it goes without saying that a shorter guy will have his struggles with taller opponents, but this hasn't been a weak point in Adoree's game. Especially when it comes to jump ball situations - that SHOULD be one of the first things you notice about Adoree as a prospect. Amazing skills when going up for the ball in the air. . . in fact this is where he is most dangerous. . . honestly I'm not sure you've ever watched the kid play. :)

For the bolded bit you said Adoree wasn't as "coached up" as Vic and while I agree Vic has had great coaching, I think you might have just pulled that thought out of your your butt - again. Hell, Adoree might even have the upper hand when it comes to coaching considering all the events he's participated in and his undoubtedly has a great high school coaching staff.

Yeah the claiming that adoree was vulnerable on jump ball situations... I was like.. Well there's no more sense arguing with the guy now. Near Olympic level Jumper!

Sorry if I've missed the update on here, but the past few pages are all Adoree vs Gaulden talk.

Is Gaulden playing safety or corner this week?

Wharton is a good player but come on now man....... He's not better than Jackson.

Not necessarily saying Wharton was better than, Jackson. Only said he was second to none with his return skills. And their game is very very similar from watching both films. I'll take Adoree on defense, but I'll take Wharton on offense all day long.

I was referring to VHIII and Adoree in terms of coaching. Before he got to school VHIII didn't have problems with jump balls. There's more to defending jump balls than a vertical. In a one on one battle a WR physical like Da'Rick Rogers would just muscle through him for a lot of stuff. It happens man, you guys can call him superman all you want but he's a shorter CB and his athleticism will only compensate for so much. A smart big WR will lean on him to take his legs away and outmuscle him when the ball comes. Just will be a fight that he'll have to win. A smart coach wouldn't line a speed guy up on him. He'll eat those type of WRs alive with his athleticism. He's a very good DB so I don't know why you think I'm saying that dude. Anybody can clearly see I like him as a player.

LionPride Wharton shouldn't be compared to Adoree at all. No disrespect but they aren't close. Adoree is a real nightmare in the slot.

SN: you guys forgot about Helm beating him consistently on jump balls. Or was that Tabor, think he got both of them over the summer.

That was Helm going absolutely ham on Tabor, but I think we may have gotten the best receiving TE in the class with Helm, so if he went over Adoree that should really surprise no one but more be a testament to his unique skillset. Again the "height issue" is a moot point. Go look at a Pro Bowl roster. I don't know what you think I'm saying about you. I'm not putting words in your mouth or anything, Breakerboy. Just clearing the air about that issue you keep bringing up with height. It goes without saying that a smaller DB will struggle more with a larger WR. It's like science, or something.

Height came up discussing the players strengths when comparing the two. Gaulden is an elite level CB prospect to me. I'm extremely happy with his addition. People are looking crazy because I said he's probably a better prospect than Adoree for the position. Adoree's only advantage is his extremely high level of athleticism. Gaulden is a very good athlete in his own right to go with his other tools. We have no idea what Gaulden is like in man coverage yet. But in camps over the summer he was locking WRs up. He has a great nose for the ball and good ball skills from playing WR. He has long arms and the frame to be a force on the edge with added weight. His attitude for tackling will make it fun to watch WRs catch hitch routes or the popular screens that are being run these days. I think he's a heck of a prospect for an SEC style CB.
