'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

It took one scrimmage.

Scott Blade said one incredible hit from Gaulden — who enrolled at Tennessee this week — in Nashville-area Independence High School’s first scrimmage last season foreshadowed an incredible fall.

“Obviously he did a lot of great things for us, but probably the one play above all actually came in our first scrimmage last fall,” Blade told govols247. “He was playing strong safety, rolled up on the right side, and the ball was in the middle of the field, and it was a toss sweep to the left. Well, he came all the way over from the right side of the field, without ever breaking stride, and he just really hit the guy. The guy’s helmet came off. His whole body was in the air for probably 3 of 4 yards, and he landed out of bounds. He hit him in-bounds — plenty in-bounds; 2 or 3 yards in-bounds — but he definitely landed out of bounds. But the thing was RaShaan never broke stride, and he delivered an incredible hit. A lot of kids will kind of brace themselves, or they’ll try and get in a position to protect themselves a little bit, but he just ran from one side of the field to other and never broke stride.

“That’s one of things where you kind of knew this was a guy who knew how to hit and wanted to hit and bring the most with him. That was the first time in person when we were like, ‘OK, he’s different. Most kids don’t do that.’”

Far more likely to beat out McNeil than Coleman but several of the Fr will get significant PT... not out of necessity IMO but because they're that talented. The coaches will have an opportunity to feed them a little at a time by preparing them for and playing them for situational packages.

Swafford will likely continue to be more of a factor than many want to believe. What he lacks in physical ability, he seems to make up for with football intelligence and effort.

Agree 100% on Swafford. Kid is a baller no doubt. Glad the coaches rewarded his hard work with a scholarship.

Just so you guys know, this guy coached Eric Gordon at Hillsboro (my old school) . He could clock any ball carrier in our division ( and Marcus Lattimore's career) in one hit. It's great to hear that this guy is even more vicious and talented. Go vols

I wish Eric would have been properly coached at UT.

The battle for the other Safety position will be an interesting one! The increase in competitions is going to be great! Can't wait to see who emerges as the starter.

McNeil starts the year, McDowell finishes it. That's my prediction anyway.
