Continue with their nfl jobs while they put their staff together at their new job.

ND and Penn State(iirc) allowed their nfl hires to do it

Ah, ok. Didn't know that. Figured there would be some conflict of interest there

I see either Freeze, Franklin, or Golden going to USCw. Possibly Gundy.

I don't see SC going for Gundy with all the accusations floating around Okie State and his name as part of it. After getting into the trouble they did on Carroll's watch and Kiffen always doing things a bit shady, I think Haden will avoid this at all costs. This could hurt Franklin as well with the current scandal at VU.

Think about someone who is either familiar with the west coast or has history there. Not sure if Freeze or Golden fit this description or not.

Del Rio has that job sewn up boys.

I think Del Rio is a strong candidate for USCw as you say. I also think Jeff Fisher, Greg Roman, Chris Petersen, and Pat Fitzgerald will also be considered. This year will be interesting because I am anticipating that Texas and Nebraska will also be open jobs. I think Texas will consider Roman, Petersen, Muschamp, Art Briles, Charlie Strong, and Gary Patterson. My guess is that James Franklin's best shot would be at Nebraska and that Nebraska will likely get their coach after USCw and Texas have selected their coaches. I have heard that Petersen nearly left Boise for UCLA and that he may believe he has done all he can at Boise, especially with the possible rift between the big programs and the NCAA or possible shifting to a separate division for the big programs, and that could be the reason he leaves now after refusing overtures in the past. If USCw hired Del Rio, Fisher, or Roman, I think Texas would be ecstatic about Petersen. If I were the AD at any of the three schools, I would hire Roman and not look back. He is a Harbaugh disciple--which seems to be working for David Shaw--and they built a program at Stanford, while a beautiful campus and great school, their football program had struggled for quite some time. I like Roman's offensive approach, he demonstrated recruiting chops, and the 49ers offensive situation has soured a bit wit Colin K's early season play. It could be the right time for him to bolt.

According to Rivals, USC's top targets in order:

1. Sumlin
2. Del Rio
3. Sark

Franklin is a non factor for the job. Rivals said USC wants someone that is proven and not just some young hotshot. Vanderbilt and USC are 2 totally different worlds.

Not trying to turn this into a USC coaching job thread, but why would sumlin leave A & M. Their program is on fire right now

Pac 12 is much easier than the SEC West. About the only reason. I do not think he would leave though. He will, however, let his name be associated withe the USC search and turn around and get a big raise.

Sumlin won't leave A&M, this search will just get him a big raise. Del Rio is the DC of a team possibly headed for the Super Bowl, that will likely get him another HC job in the NFL. That leaves Sark, USC's next HC, IMO.

Agreed. I think Sark is the guy. The only reason Haden might move in another direction would be to give some separation from the sanctions they received during Sark's time there. He's run a clean program at Washington, though. And he has a great staff.

He gets the job.

So why is Sark there? He's just Kiffin without the mouth.

I find it hard to believe Del Rio or Fisher would consider the USC job. It's like with Gruden and Cowher - those guys are pro coaches. Nearly their entire career has been in the NFL. I can only think of a handful of coaches who have gone from NFL head coach to college (Carroll, Mora).

Del Rio went to USC and was also offered the job in '10 IIRC in which he declined as he was still with the Jags. It's not like they pulled a random name out of a hat of NFL DCs. He has ties there, he's been in contact about the job before, and I would call the move a step up. I think it's his if he wants it.

1. Sumlin, lol... No way. Pay the man, extend, and nothing else to see.

2. Del Rio, plausible, but his contract is the holdup. However, they say contracts are meant to be broken. Could be a USC clause, for all we know.

3. Sarkisian is the pick. If he turns them down, it will be full on panic mode in Troy.

4. Pete Carrol: part 2? Doubtful, but Hmmm...

5. Chris Peterson: Boise has fallen off the map, if he does have higher aspirations, now is the time to jump, if offered. But maybe the man really does love him some Idaho

...

87. James Franklin

Watch out for Chris Peterson as well. I've read he is finally willing to listen to other coaching opportunities. I don't think Sark will turn them down though. He knows he has tapped out his potential in Washington, similar to Dan Mullen at MSU.

Lol, you must've been typing that as I made my edit. :eek:lol:

Disagree with this with the new stadium, and the coaching staff he has put together. They have a very legitimate shot against Stanford and Oregon, and winning one of those would be a big step forward for the program. Especially when you consider the alternative is a job at a program that still has sanctions for 2 more years
