"Sorry! I haven't been on today. Been knocking out some CE that I had to take care of. Anyway, I haven't posted lately because there's not a lot new, if anything. Bottom line is that DB really wants to be a Vol! His mom, who works 2 jobs and hasn't had the easiest of lives, has bought into the Vandy myth regarding what a great education, etc. She doesn't DISLIKE Tennessee. CBJ is well aware of the dynamics as he spoke with my friend (coach at BA) on Sunday. He is doing all the things that you would hope he would do to explain the great opportunities that our great former players have upon graduation. Obviously, it's a big deal to play football at UT! My friend, who is his coach and practically part of the family, knows he needs to be at UT! The mom likes CBJ and UT so it's not like she has a problem with it. Anyway, she just wants the best for her son and, honestly, there will be a spot both places so there is no need to rush. CBJ REALLY wants DB so I still think we get him but it's just not 100% because he wants his mom on board. Distance to Knoxville compared to playing here is not an issue that I've heard. It's a process. I think this is pretty much what Paul has been saying BTW, so I think he is hearing the same. That said, I will try to call my friend tonight or tomorrow and see what's up, if anything."

For the most part, parents will support whatever decision the kids make. So if Barnett really does want to come to Tennessee, than I don't mind giving his mother time to be OK with it.

So his mom, who wants DB to have a Vandy education, want's what's best for her son? Sounds like she wants him to go to Vandy.

There was a whole big section where it said she doesn't dislike TN. Basically this means she needs to be sold on UT academics and Franklin is negative recruiting our APR. That will change soon.

Every parent wants their kid to get a great education.

Exactly. It doesn't help our APR was so low and all over the radio. Franklin is using that in this case. So I can understand his mom slowing things down, one has to check everything out when it comes to their child.

I just don't understand some parents. Your kid is a special athlete that has potential to make a living playing a sport. Why would you want them to go to a school that is clearly inferior in producing NFL talent just for a so-called better degree? Degrees nowadays are a dime a dozen and it only goes as far as person wants to take it.

That's just a nice way of saying this one isn't over yet.

I think Barnett lets things play out into the season. Best thing for UT is if Ole Miss thumps candy in week 1. JF does alot of crying to the media, and maybe it helps Barnett decide Tennessee is where he needs to be.

You don't come to UT to get a good education. You come to UT to play in SEC Championships, NC title games and get drafted in the 1st round. Enough said.

I thought Barnett was a lock? How can you look at his visit to Vandy as good for us?

#1 Recruiting class, and not a single Defensive Tackle.

Like having an open heart surgery from a world renowned surgeon and not having the bypass grafts. SMH

Looks like we are going to finish out our recruiting class strong

How many kids actually make it to the league though. How many top recruits didn't even get drafted due to injuries, lack of will, or getting into trouble?

It isn't having the degree that's important it's the process of getting it. It's figuring out the best way for you to learn information, adapting to change and difficult deadlines, and learning how to work with other. You learn how to think and analyze a certain way better than you would with just a high school education and I believe it does give you a head start. I don't blame his mom at all for putting high value in education.

Sorry for the lecture, but there are a lot of people that think a college education is pointless, I am not one of those people.

With that said, I'm proud to be a UT alum, I learned a lot while I was there. And DB's mom will be proud of her son when he becomes a UT alum.

I have two brothers who played at Vanderbilt. One has his BS and his Masters from Vandy. Both are very successful but not because of a Vandy education. They could have gotten their education anywhere in the world and have been just as successful. Their Vandy alumni did not help them one iota. The Vandy alums could care less about football players while they are at Vandy nor once they graduate. That is a fact.

Depends how you look at it. What if what's best for her son is for him to be happy and enjoy his years in college. Sounds like Tennessee with some of his friends and our recruiting class would be right for him. Who knows what it means. Leave it to you to look at it in a negative light. How about we let it play out and don't mark him off the list before he has said a word about it? Oh yea, that would be using logic which you seem to throw out the window when you log on VN daily to spew your negativity.

This kid will be a VOL. I have said it before and I will stick by what I heard. Franklin will soon find out who the real state school is.

Barnett will be a vol. Trust in Butch and more importantly Vic. They've sealed this deal with Barnett and his mom isn't going to make him make a decision that he knows he ultimately won't be happy with.

If you get your degree period these days is the main thing, not where you got it. Bottom line is if he gets his degree from Tennessee it will be valuable in the future and most if not all could care less where he got it. A education is what the student makes it, and at UT he would get a good one.Now as far as football goes it depends if you want to play for a school rich in tradition and championships and great fans or play in front of a friday night high school atmosphere for a school with zero football tradition and zero championships. I know where I would go! GO VOLS!!

Wish Dominique would help us out with a commit! Fans need one every 10 days or so just to take the edge off!! Wow, feels good to finally be able to say that this year!:machgun::machgun::machgun:

Vandy grads with noses high in the air do not help or think much of Vandy football player grads. He would get a lot more future help as a UT alum.

I wrote my post before I read this but here you go.

All his mother needs to know is JF is about JF. Recruiting TN players to go to O$U while being a hc at Vandie High is weaksauce.
