Derek Barnett will be at Vanderbilt on Saturday with his family as that looms as an important for Barnett and those close to him. We talked to Barnett on Thursday and he told Volquest.com that as of Thursday he has no firm plans on when he'll announce a decision. One could come as early as a few days or weeks after the visit or he could take official visits this fall and wait some time to make a decision.

It would seem that Barnett holding off on a decision would help Tennessee as they would be able to get him on campus at least one more time, possibly more. This certainly has turned into a battle for the Midstate's best defensive lineman.

Nothing has changed with Derek. He loves UT and the recruits and players. He wants to be a Vol. Franklin has sold mom on the idea that a Vandy degree means that success will fall in his lap for the rest of his life. Derek wants to be a Vol but is trying to please his mom. The trip to Vandy is for her. He wants her to be on board with his decision to be a Vol and she wants to ensure that he has all the facts before making a decision. This has been the situation for the past month or so. At this point CBJ is recruiting mom.

Would not make alot of sense to me. If the kid wants to be a VOL, you would think getting his mom to visit UT more would be the plan instead of attending the dog and pony show in Nashville. If mom is already sold on candy, another trip there makes it look to me like Derek may be trying to talk himself into sticking closer to home.

Sounds like James Franklin is selling Mom on a bill of goods that's not very accurate. A degree, regardless where it's from will open doors but does not ensure automatic success.

I hope Mom sees that a degree at UT will be just as effective in the workforce as one from Vandy would be.

I would agree with you but this isn't Derek's plan. I don't get the impression that Derek is all that fired up about visiting but he is doing it for his mom. And just to be clear, mom likes UT and really likes the coaching staff but I think she isn't sure that Derek has really given Vandy due consideration and wants him to do that before making a final decision.

I really think Mom will see that and she is getting some great counsel from the BA staff as they try to help her wade through the BS.

You're looking at it the wrong way. It's Derek saying "Okaaaaay mom, if you want me to take a look at Vandy one more time just to make sure then I'll do it for you if that will make you happy".

If the bad news hits vandy today that very well could flip mom very easily. As I said before certainly not celebrating that misfortune but in this case it will help us IMO.

Mom may be trying to sell the son rather than the other way around. Unless she's just one of "those" parents... it probably won't make one bit of difference.

FWIW, I don't know what Vandy grads do but I have only met one doctor from there and cannot think of any prominent public figures or business leaders from Vandy. So unless he's going to major in medicine... I'm not sure what she's looking at. If he is going to major in medicine then there are schools as good or better that actually have strong football programs. Franklin is blowing smoke.

Franklin is certainly slick... hopefully mom sees through it.

If they get charged today and Derek's mother questions JF about it I'm sure he already has the "guilty until proven innocent" statement ready for her. He may try to use the "all the staff was on vacation that week" to help cover for them. Either way the victim will not be a concern for JF since it's not his child. JF is a prick!

He might even brag on the Crime Management degree that is available at Vandy. j/k

There is no answer that wins for him. Bad situation and I hate it had happened but If the mom is torn this will certainly help us

agree 100% - hate the situation - in reality it could have happened at a lot of places - that being said it is not good for Vandy's chances with DB that it happened now

good for the good guys though

So in other words 'Perception is not reality' with are program when it comes to index1 crimes. But perception is reality when it comes to UTs APR. Nevermind Butch Jones excellent past records with other schools, or the marked improvement academically the first semester he has been head coach. Franklin's a phony goof that will bolt Vandy soon as the time is right.
