I don't think so because he decommitted then put our name in the mix. Everybody thought we had a realistic shot but not to the point that we did with Austin. The staff knows we only have a spot left as well. We aren't blindly throwing out offers. They've all been 4 stars or so the last few offers we've handed out.

I know Looney is a long shot, but I've always felt CCM had a better shot at him than Black. I'd rather be in a recruiting race for a kid 1,000 miles from Knoxville, than one from Memphis. At least the kid from 1,000 miles away won't have folks actively working to get him to go "anywhere but Tennessee."

Right I agree he didn't go all-in, that's what I was saying, but did the Memphis bug cost him someone else? Only time will tell. If we miss on Looney, and don't land henriquez (way too early to tell anything), and end up with an unranked guy as our last commit, then that hurts.

We stopped pursuing a top 100 player in London because Black and Looney were higher on our board. We didn't push hard for a will be top 150 in Kuzma for the same reasons. It'll be interesting to see who ends up with the last spot...if its looney or henriquez, then all is well. If its a no name guy, then that's a dissapointing finish to this class.

Oh agreed. Something tells me if we don't land Looney or Henriquez I have a feeling we'll go after a JUCO. I would have loved to have Black tho. Would have just added to a good class.

If no Looney or Henriquez, I think we should just save the scholly instead of just adding a body.

There's some JUCO guards this year too, we may just be late to the party. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Those 2 yea, and it remains to be seen how strong we will actually push for henriquez. Will be interesting to see if any new names pop up, or if they take their chances with those 2. If they miss on both, then evaluate guys going into spring.

Like I said, you shouldn't be too heartbroken over this kid. IMO, he'll be one that gets a lot of attention but he by himself won't put a team in the Elite 8. JMO but I've felt like that for a few years. Great player but just one of those you get the feeling could cause some issues (maybe wrong but I'm usually a pretty good read) with other players. I know some here don't buy into my accessment but I would rather move on with 2-3 4* than spend too much time on Black. Illinois may be a good fit for him. I'm glad Memphis didn't waste too much time on him as well. The writing was on the wall a long time ago. I think Kirby got involved again because the family liked him (Kirby). Pastner's religion was a bit of an issue.

You guys would be much better off with Looney. Good luck with that one. Would be great for Martin's cause to land one like that.

Let's be honest. People are jumping to conclusions about Black's character because he's highly ranked and he decommitted from Baylor. People wouldn't be saying stuff like "attention whore" or constantly insisting that he is going to cause issues within a team if he hadn't simply decommitted. I've asked people multiple times to present some tangible evidence of character flaws for Black, and no one has given me sh!t.

People are assuming he decommitted because he thought he was too good for them. Maybe he just wised up, and got the hell away from Scott Drew.

Unless you actually know something, or can post a link of an interview or video of Black being a total prima donna, let's stop making these claims that no one has any factual basis for.

Bottom line is Black is off the board as he is Illini bound. Next up: Looney, whom we really need, but it looks like Duke is the team to beat out.
