'15 AL DE Prince Tega

It will be a busy day at tiny Edgewood Academy in Elmore, Ala., as the home of defensive end Prince Tega Wanogho Jr., who recently reclassified to 2015 from 2016, will welcome staff members from seven different schools including Tennessee.

Steve Stripling and John Jancek will be in the small town about 20 minutes north of Montgomery.

Tennessee has made a strong early impression on Wanogho Jr. and his host family. Butch Jones is one of just two head coaches that have called and talked to him and the family, along with Charlie Strong of Texas.

While no official visit dates have been set we continue to believe the Vols will likely receive one and could in fact receive the last if he tries to squeeze all five in before the dead period.

What is a possibility for Wanogho Jr. is that he delays his decision past signing day. If that were to happen it would be interesting to see how the Vols would manage their numbers in that situation.

Should he play one more year of high school? To be transparent I've not watched any highlights and know close to nothing about him. Just hope he is physically ready. I remember Jelani Jenkins was like 16 when he signed at Florida several years ago. That is l pretty young, how old is Prince?

His film is pretty crazy. He's 6'8" 250lbs and runs down quite a few RB's in his highlights. Appears to be quite the athlete. I saw a scout article that said he's 17 right now. 247 has his frame and closing speed as 10's.

“He didn’t know how to get into a three-point stance when he got here. It took him a while to get in it, but when he did he was flattening offensive tackles. His speed and strength is on another level.”

[Edgewood Academy coach Bobby] Carr first noticed Junior’s full potential when he pitted him in a race against speedy running back Herman McKenzie. It was one he was not supposed to contend in.

“I put a kid in front of him, our running back with an offer from Oregon State, who runs 4.42 (in the 40-yard dash). I put him five yards in front of Tega and said, ‘when I blow the whistle, I want you to chase him.’ I wanted to get a good time on him,” he said. “And he caught him at the 35 yard-line and grabbed him. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, it’s crazy.”

The secret is out

Tega has unreal athletic ability but it's also clear that he's just a fantastic kid overall. Excellent piece from yesterday:

“It’s really weird, because seriously, I don’t really understand,” he admitted. “I don’t really know what’s going on right now. I’m just being blessed, and I’m enjoying the moment. I know I’m getting a scholarship, and I know I’m going to school, and that’s what comes first. I’m trying to do my best, and making good grades, as coach explained to us, is the only way you can play. It’s a challenge for us, a big challenge for us, to do well in the classroom and with the sports they play.”

It’s not just a cliche with Tega, who became emotional on multiple occasions in stressing his priorities, family and education.

In the fall, he achieved all A’s save for one class, where a B was his final tally.

Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. is now on the clock

If it were a bigger school with better coaching and facilities, then maybe. But at this point the facilities, coaching, and competition at the 1a level isn't worth the payoff. College makes the most sense from of a developmental standpoint. I'd argue that it's better to get him as fresh as possible so he doesn't develop any bad habits, so it's a win/win situation him forgoing his sr year.

Jelani was reslly good talent wise but he wasn't the physical Freak this freaking kid is. This guy looks like a damn monster playing against pee wee football players in his highlights.

Talked to a couple of the Scout recruiters for the South tonight. Prince is the real deal. Had he played another yearvin high school he would have been in the discussion for top 5. One of them said he's the most physically gifted DE prospect hes seen. Ever. "If his football IQ ever catches up to his physical gifts hes a future #1 pick.#

I'm guessing if he wants to come to TN, then we will take him and ask one of a TE or DE commit to look around?

LT frame, IMO. Eric Fisher 2.0? :)

I just want him to come here. The only guy I can stand getting rid of from those two positions though is Oliver. With that said though, think this guy is more likely to be a DE.

He is more of an athletic freak than Clowney... Let that sink in for a little while.

Only comparison I can come up with for this guy's athleticism at DE is Jason Pierre-Paul in college. That said this guy has a bigger frame, is faster, and younger upon coming into whatever program he chooses. Almost unfair if we get him but it sounds like at bare minimum we will get a visit.

If we are looking for a trade then I would go with Tega over Lovingood. I think we can find a walk-on LS and make Tega a OT.

If that's the choice, sure. Somehow I think they get Lovingood without him counting against the current numbers though. :good!:

Where is Prattville Vol? This is 10-15 minutes from Prattville. I wonder if he has seen this kid play and what is his assessment? Edgewood Academy is very small school and I would worry about the competition. Would have loved to see what he could do at Wetumpka, Stanhope Elmore, or Prattville. Those are the football schools within 20 minutes of Edgewood.

Wonder if Prince likes Red Bull more than Peanut Butter?

If so, we are in trouble.

:cray:

If O is already recruiting for LSU it could be fun. Ed really connects with some recruits but he is hated by others. He assumes most kids have the inner city vibe and when he runs into ones that don't it doesn't end well. He ruined us with Marlin Brown and turned jabriel Washington totally off.
