'15 AL LB Keaton Anderson

But of course, the Anderson family represents much more to Tennessee than just a legacy and we DID put Tyler Summitt on the men's basketball team as a non-scholarship player even though he had very little talent for playing the game and Allison Fulmer on the Softball team even though she was not the caliber of player that the Weekly's normally take. Major college athletics is a business and that means keeping your benefactors and other major contributors happy. If Keaton Anderson wanted to come to UT there is no doubt in my mind he would have a scholly waiting for him along with the red carpet treatment of a 5* QB...That's just how it is even though you are right that we are in on better LB's.

It is a business but there's a new Sheriff in town that understands sound business decisions and that the ultimate revenue generator is a winning program. As long as we have the Haslam's, appeasing other alum is secondary and unless Alum have kids that are true ballers, they should not be offered schollies. Period!

While I mostly agree with you...I will point out that the Anderson family contributes a lot and their name is also on a a building at UT. The training facility. They aren't just "some other alum" or small time booster.

Certainly agree with you about the Andersons' being significant donor alums. In 2 years we can probably take a legacy like Keaton, who has some potential to contribute, but won't kill us if he doesn't. However, at this point in time with the current roster and LB talent that we are heavily in the mix with, we can't afford it. We need to make every signing count if possible, and if someone has a higher ceiling than a legacy and wants to be a Vol, then take him. And don't get me wrong, I'm all for legacies being Vols...just like Isaiah McDaniel, we can't give all of them schollies. Some will walk-on anyway, and others will take a scholly to another school. It's all part of recruiting and big-time college football.
