'15 DE GA Andrew Butcher (UT Commit 6/8/13)

I mean 2 inches! For real? How big of a difference could it make?

On a tee

Most of the best Dlineman are 6'2". Websites are only there to make themselves money. They only care about pimping out kids who will generate website hits.

Honestly, I'd rather see people devalue our recruits and then come out of nowhere and smoke some unsuspecting teams (like FL or GA). I know they aren't really "unsuspecting" but I'd much rather be the media "underdog".

I just spoke with Butcher, who said he was still "solid as of right now," but may take visits this summer/fall.
-Anna Hickey, ND Scout

Probably went like this.

Anna: As of right now are you still pretty solid to Tennessee?
Butcher: Yep.
Anna: Are other schools wanting you to visit?
Butcher: Yeah.
Anna: Do you plan on making any trips?
Butcher: Maybe some camps.

AKA - More subs and hits for their site

Great post. I wish more people would understand this stuff, especially in the Preston Williams thread. These kids just answer the questions that reporters ask them. And plenty of reporters will ask sensationalized questions. It sucks, but I can understand - boring ain't gonna pay the mortgage. But what happens is this...

Reporter: "Preston, what's your Top 4?"
PW: "Well, I'm committed to Tennessee right now..."
Reporter: "I know you're committed, but if you had to pick a Top 4, who would be in it?"
PW: "Oh, well, I guess it would be Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, and Florida."

Turns into this:

"BREAKING: Elite 5-star #Vols commit Preston Williams considering Auburn, Georgia, Florida"

They don't deserve a big mortage. They suck at their jobs.

Blame their editors.

"We need more clicks. This story/headline isn't controversial enough. Just go twist some quotes and take things completely out of context so we can tweet a misleading headline."

I forgot about them. It's why I don't even bother anymore.

And Tennessee Vol recruiting sites & services do the exact same thing.

It's long played out the same. If the news is pro UT it is the gospel, if it is negative, they are FOS.

Never said they didn't. I'm sure Florida and Georgia fans think Hubbs and the gang are homers.

What's going on man? Haven't seen you in a while on here

I haven't been around VN much since the summer. I finished up my last bit of schooling this Fall and graduated this December all while finishing up my college football career this Fall so there wasn't much time for VN posts.

But nonetheless, I am very impressed with Butch Jones' recruiting & I look forward to TN football this upcoming season.

Well, now you can post more often! Ha.

I don't think we've talked before, but where'd you play at?

You might get Ron and Wu back with this  Leb?...he's at the Bruin Memorial Fountain

Is it just me or is Andrew Butcher trying to puff himself up in every picture he's in? He crosses him arms and tries to make himself look big... /vent

Glad he's on our team and he is recruiting hardcore.

“It’s going to take a lot to even rethink (that commitment), “Brian Butcher said. “Of all the offers he’s gotten, including Alabama and everybody, that Notre Dame offer is the one that kind of opened my eyes and go, ‘Wow, that’s one we have to take a visit to.”

“I was following coach Booker on Twitter and we were direct messaging back and forth. He told me to call him that night,” Butcher said. “I talked to him, the defensive coordinator and D-line coach. I felt really honored that they thought high enough about me to extend a full scholarship to me.”

“I think we’re planning on making an official up there,” Andrew Butcher said. “It’s just a long drive to get there by car so it would be nice to get everything paid for to get there.”

I'm spoiled by our 'core' 2014 recruits. We don't have that dedication in this class. Sad but true.

This year will be indicative of all years going forward. Fight to the end to keep kids. We were just damn lucky in '14.

More from that article on ND Rivals...

The Butchers have a tie to the Irish.

Brian Butcher is good friends with former Irish linebacker Donn Grimm, a linebacker on the 1988 national championship team. Grimm was the first person to reach out to Brian Butcher once news of the Irish offer got out.

“He’s a good friend of our families, so I learned a lot about Notre Dame from him,” Brian Butcher said. “It’s an honor. As a kid growing up, on Sundays, this is back before every game was on cable, on Sundays we always watched Notre Dame, Southern Cal and Grambling football highlights.”
