'15 DE GA Andrew Butcher (UT Commit 6/8/13)

After earning all-state honors in Georgia's largest classification as a junior, when he had 87 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 13 sacks, Butcher has had a strong senior season. The Raiders notched another region title and enter the playoffs following Friday night's 34-14 win against North Forsyth.

"My senior season's going great," said Butcher, whose father, Brian, played at Clemson when the Tigers won the 1981 national championship. "We're going to match the record for the best regular-season record if we win on Friday, which we should. We've already clinched the region, so this would be my third region championship.

"I think I've done my part. I just wanted to play the best I can and help my team get victories. I think I've definitely done that. I already have the same number of sacks I had last season, and I played three more games last season than I have right now."

Butcher, who feels his strengths are his vision and instincts, is part of an impressive defensive-line haul for Tennessee, which has relied essentially on a five-man rotation up front for most of this season.

Andrew Butcher excited by OT win, confident in Tennessee Vols' future

So, no one send the mob after me with pitch forks and torches, but is there any reason to believe Butcher will move inside? He is a terrifying DE, but he looks like a big kid who has a lot of room to grown, potentially into a Tackle. With that being said...

Is there any reason for us to believe a scheme change is in the near future? I do not know anything really about CBJ's or CJJ's defenses prior to them arriving at Tennessee, but it seems like we are building a DL that could morph with a base 3-4 system with all of these WDEs turning into rush LBs like Chris Weatherd. It just feels like we took several SDE last cycle, then three really great, young DTs this cycle as well as trying to get two rush DEs. Just feels like we are trying to recruit to a slightly different system.

I am eating some crow here because I really thought Maggitt would be better standing up and that we were recruiting to this hybrid system our of necessity, but I now see that we are trying to staying in this flexible space between a 4-3/Nickel/3-4 defenses and it really intrigues me.

I think our defense is a multiple one with a "base" 4-3. So, it's not surprising to me that we are taking versatile players. I doubt we are moving to a base 3-4, but I think CBJ, et al., want to be able to lineup in a variety of looks, including a 3-4 at times.

With regard to Butcher being a DT, I guess it could happen. It is always difficult to predict what will happen when a player hits campus and starts the S&C program and/or what the team needs will be. For instance, Barnett was projected to be a DT and Hendrix a DE but I'm pretty sure Barnett will stay a DE and I think Hendrix may end up at DT.

Butcher is a DE all the way. You guys are always and I mean always trying to put a player in a different position. Freakin amazing!!!! This stuff happens so much i am just wondering when i am going to see someone say he should be a TE or what about OL,,,,,,WTF!

Butcher is one of the best DE's in the nation and we always seem to have these couch coaching nuckle draggers who think he is suited better for another position. lol And once that is mentioned omg it never ends!

WR's should be TE's
TE's should be OL
DE's should be DL or an OL
Safties should be a LB
RB's should be LB or TE

and what is freakin really funny is that player could be a 5 Star number one at his position!!!!! Give me a freakin break!

sorry i had to vent on this one!!! Let me go lay down and drink my orange coolaid.

Agree 100% with this...see TKJr thread. Barnett is doing pretty good huh?...still hearing talk about how long before they move HIM. Stephen Griffin thinks he's a safety...poor bastaj! Prepare for more.

While it does seem to happen in too many threads there are some players that it could happen with. I got blasted for saying I thought McDowell could grow in to an OLB last year and he has already moved there now. Just saying it does happen from time to time.

Of course, and that example was a common one.. it just seems that whatever position we recruit a player at, there's way too quick a call to have them move up a position.

Just watched this kid's junior highlight film (because obviously I have nothing better to do). My God! This young man is dangerous on the high school level. Every single play I thought the opposing player was going to be injured. Butcher is a beast, has an unstoppable motor. I cannot wait until Shy, McKenzie, and Butcher get to Knoxville.

Bama's going down! Go Vols!

My bad....

My comments were meant to be more about the system than the players. I like Butcher at UT. Don't care what position he plays. I meant no offense.

He may not be the strongest or the quickest but I think his football IQ and motor are second-to-none with any recruit on the Dline this year. Glad he is on our team

He's a good athlete and a strong kid as well. I feel like people are underrating his athleticism for the obvious reason.

Nkemdiche was a beast on the outside as a freshman and then they moved him inside. It happens, regardless of performance. Kid is 18, his body may not be done growing, so he might eventually be a better fit on the outside. Hopefully not though, with our 3 DT studs coming in, we need proven DE to stay there.

Nkem was moved to DT early his freshman year
