This one caught me off-guard as well. I can only think it's due to the high level of competition we've got at DE. Regardless, Ford is a beast, and I think he wants to be a Vol. Like someone else said, very reminiscent of Booth's recruitment last year. Best of luck to him wherever he goes, unless we're playing him!

Thought:

We wouldn't have brought him in on an official visit this past weekend if we knew we were going to cut him or let him walk. This leads me to believe someone new has popped up that we have a real shot at that we didn't know about last week, or a name has re-surfaced. One or the other.

Otherwise, the kid took his visit and hated it. Which I believe it's safe to say didn't happen.

I can think of several commits I would have cut loose before Ford. Very disappointed he won't be in Big Orange next year. I think we've all been expecting attrition for a while, but Ford going first really causes me to scratch my head. When the next phases of cuts come through, I really hope we trim from the bottom half of our board and not from the top half.

The coaches aren't going to let someone go unless they have someone that we need worse than Ford already lined up. I am wondering who that is.

Yea it's seems real cold hearted to let him come this weekend if he was already on the chopping block.
Something changed between this weekend and this afternoon

He'll probably go to UF and sack Dobbs 6 times in the Swamp next year like Alex Brown did to Tee Martin, because Vol Luck.

Yeah I definitely agree with you over a coach that gets paid millions to do what he does. It's not like he's well on his way to bringing in back to back top five recruiting classes...oh wait.

Numbers are tight as we all very well know.

I would look for Ford to visit NC State and/or West Virginia down the stretch here. Tennessee obviously has Sapp, Allen, Richmond, Love, and Kelly on the board.

My guess is that Tennessee is not surprised by the Ford news.

Damn man. Feel bad for the kid. He turned down a bunch of chances lately to go visit elsewhere. He'll definitely be a VFL to me.
