'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

We know .01% of what's going on, what was said when the scholarship was offered, and what was the determining factors for pulling the offer as well as what was said when it was pulled. I admit that on the surface it looks bad, but that's the point, we're only seeing the surface. You have to have faith that Butch is doing the right thing for the program.

I like Butch but I hate this move. This kid has been committed for the long haul. He bled UT. Now I know, kids decommit all the time. But they are 18 year olds. These are grown men pulling a scholarship from a young man and crushing his dream. Grown men who preach family and the value of commitment daily. I know we have other needs but damn. A shame

I wonder how much having 3 rush ends committed and 1 already enrolled had a play in this. With the need at RB and at OT, I guess that having one of the rush ends move on was the best option.

My prediction is that he ends up at Arkansas and kills it.

two years in a row butch has taken too many commits too early, i think this is wrong. you dont have to act like bama to beat bama. he should hold off taking pledges so early from borderline prospects. perhaps butch is being more "successful' on the recruiting trail than he thought they'd be. no amount of this is the world we live in will change right from wrong. i hope he has more foresight in the future... the young man has been a Vol for 6 months only to have the rug pulled out from under him with only 2 weeks to signing day. There is no Volunteer spirit in that, I mean he asked the young man to sign the wall in his own home right?

Missed seeing you around. Hope you're doing well.

I agree completely. Really hope we start seeing less commitments early from players that aren't for sure takes. People can say thats just how it is, but it makes it less enjoyable to me. I would rather have a family feel than a business feel to the program. VFL works both ways.

Really hate this, especially so close to signing day. It does make me feel better knowing he will still be getting a free education some decent though. Hope he becomes an AA and makes us regret it. Good luck Ford.

Signing day is the beginning of the period to officially commit to a school, not the end.

He can take OV's after NSD if needed. There are a lot of schools that don't have our problem of over committed guys at the moment.

Cool, I'd rather win and be the best in the country and do whatever has to be done.

Better now than NSD like SoS and Lane did kids a few years back. Both kids went onto have producticve college careers. The kid SC fk'd is projected as a first rounder.

He has two weeks to take visits or he can wait past NSD to make sure he lands somewhere he sees as a good fit.

Why are some of y'all mad? He couldve decommitted at any time. Nothing is binding or guaranteed. He'll be fine somewhere else

Seems like somebody left the door open and the football forum snuck in here...

This kid is a stud DE - he will bounce back and good programs will come calling! Others need a good DE!
Good luck to Marques, you will land well in a top notch program!
You will have a free education and possibly a chance at NFL. It will be fine!
I am worrying how to pay for my two daughters educations! It's all relative!
Good luck young man!

Lol @ VN in this thread. Funny how a few hours can go here. Trust in Butch until he dooleys us. It sucks for Marques, but Florida needs commitments like crazy and would likely be glad to have him. I hate Florida, but as a recruit if I had to settle for Florida, that's not too bad. Atleast he ha some time before NSD. Good luck to you mr ford

So its not dirty when a kid flips on signing day? It works both ways and this is just the way it works. He will get a free education somewhere and hopefully make it to the league. Liked the kid and thought he had potential but DE is just not our highest need right now. The rb situation is borderline desperate compared to other sec teams.

In a Tennessean article, Ford's coach says that Marques is "angry". (understandably so)

Interestingly, the coach did mention that despite recruiting being a dirty business, Tennessee stayed honest in saying they "had other commits" and had to pull Marques' commitment.

Feel like this post was passed over by all of the craziness. Anyone have a link? (On mobile). Key take always from above, "UT stayed Honest" and "we have other commits" already. Can we discuss these two topics instead of freaking out?

The staff is recruiting for position strength. It is possible that they are going to pick up two OT's and maybe a RB and/or LB. They desperately need OT's. With the strength they have already got at DE the player that had to be let go that was going to be on a scholly was Ford. Getting 2 OT's instead of 1 may have been a determining factor on this. I hate it for Mr. Ford but he was probably in the most vulnerable position. A couple of things we should remember is that, 1) we were left in sorry shape at some positions by the previous staff and, 2) Tennessee was left without players a few times in the past because players decided at the last minute (on NSD) to go somewhere else.
I feel bad for Marques but the coaching staff is trying to build for the future.
