'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

Enough with the stars and rankings. He knows what he is doing... Antonio brown and Watt etc were all two stars or less that butch recruited.. The guy knows talent.

Without knowing all the facts, admittedly, and, on the surface, I still don't agree with this move. I am sure it was a very difficult decision, but I hate it for this kid who thought he was coming here and now he is not. I wish nothing but the best for Marques Ford.

I've been with this school through thick and thin, and even when we've been down I have always been proud to associate with the University. Of course I want the best class possible, but this just makes me feel dirty. I've never felt like this before about my school, and I don't like it at all.

Not a fan of this move. I guess that's the nature of the beast though.

It probably won't be a popular opinion but if we were going to drop someone, I would have rather it been Butcher. No offense to either one but I just like Ford more personally. JMO.

Butcher is already enrolled.

I will take Butch's recruiting decisions all day, especially since we had to put up with Dooley's anti-recruiting for 3 years.

I like Ford, he will land at a good school and ball out.

However, we have other needs so someone had to go and it happened to be him.

Funny how all the star gazers are butching about not cutting from the bottom up. Position play a big part. We are actually DEEP at DE so this was a logically choice for trimming the numbers.

If Butch has to knock over a grandmother with a walker to sign a better recruit, especially on the OL, she can take one for the team too

If you're talking either/or with a DE, I take the DE who is an EE all day, every day. I love Ford and his upside, but being an EE is huge for any kid these days.

To me, this is why Coach Butch Jones makes millions. Every decision being made daily is a difficult one and a risk more often than not. I expect Butch laments having to make decisions like this. But he apparently feels he can better the program going a different direction and I will trust his judgment. I'm just glad I don't have his job. :hi:

My lord people....y'all act like this is the first time UT has ever pulled a schollie from a recruit. Lol

Nope happened to Booth last season. I do feel bad for the kid, but I don't really have a problem with Butch doing what he has to. I just worry if he will lose trust with future recruits and parents.

So you would pull one of our longest committed recruits, who has already started classes, and working with the team?

I am glad you are not the coach.

In a Tennessean article, Ford's coach says that Marques is "angry". (understandably so)

Interestingly, the coach did mention that despite recruiting being a dirty business, Tennessee stayed honest in saying they "had other commits" and had to pull Marques' commitment.

Did the Tennessean article say that Vandy coaches were thrilled and jumping with joy?

two years in a row butch has taken too many commits too early, i think this is wrong. you dont have to act like bama to beat bama. he should hold off taking pledges so early from borderline prospects. perhaps butch is being more "successful' on the recruiting trail than he thought they'd be. no amount of this is the world we live in will change right from wrong. i hope he has more foresight in the future... the young man has been a Vol for 6 months only to have the rug pulled out from under him with only 2 weeks to signing day. There is no Volunteer spirit in that, I mean he asked the young man to sign the wall in his own home right?

Really hate this, especially so close to signing day. It does make me feel better knowing he will still be getting a free education somewhere decent though. Hope he becomes an AA and makes us regret it. Good luck Ford.

Interesting move. He's a talented kid, so my guess is he will be on another school's commit list in the next couple of days.
