"Marques Ford, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end out of Gibsonton (Fla.) East Bay High School, has committed to Tennessee while on a visit, his coach tells me. The Vols are getting a GREAT kid on and off the field. He's a near 4.0 student who's vastly underrated. He'll be a four-star soon. He's a pure pass-rusher that makes a living in the backfield."

-247 SportsI had an idea that thats where I wanted to commit to, but I just had to check a few things, (I like) the coaching staff, the facilities are nicer than I expected, and the players are a family, like I like. It was a lot more than I expected, said Ford I mean, I knew it was top in the country, but its great up there.
I had met Coach Gillespie (before the visit), and thats it, Ford said. I met everybody when I went up there. It was great. They treated the other players that already went there like family, so if thats how it feels when I come, then I want that. (Gillespie) was really excited, Ford said. He wanted to tell the other coaches immediately.
They said I should be around 235 (pounds) when I start college, said Ford. Im trying to bulk up. Its going to come with growth, but Im just giving it time right now and still doing everything I can. Ford, whos planning to enroll at Tennessee next summer, said hes looking forward to attending at least one of the Vols games this season, and he doesnt expect to consider any other teams leading up to signing day. I shouldnt be visiting any other schools, he said.
-VolQuest.com.It was the first visit to Tennessee for Gibsonton, Fla., defensive end Marques Ford but it didn't take long for him to realize he liked it.
In fact, before his visit was even finished, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound defender knew he wanted to call Knoxville home after his high school career ended.
"I felt comfortable there and that's really all I needed because I had everything else in place," Ford said.
Ford said he had been thinking about commit for some time before making the trip up to Rocky Top but wanted to wait until the visit to make sure he knew it was the place for him.
"All I needed was just to see it and have a feel for it because I was thinking about committing there before I went so I just wanted and I just had to get a few things sorted out," Ford explained.
Ford had already grown close to Tennessee assistant coach Robert Gillespie and felt comfortable around the rest of the staff while on his visit. Add that to the Vols' top-notch facilities and Ford didn't want to wait.
"The coaching staff and how they treated me and the other player," Ford said. "And I like the dorms there and the facilities are the top ones in the country and that was big."
Gillespie was a big reason Ford was able to commit after only one visit to Tennessee.
"He's really nice to everybody, real, not just me in the recruiting aspect of it," Ford explained. "He's high-tempo and I like that with coaches."
Ford finished his junior season with 67 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles and the Tennessee coaching staff hope to see him doing the same thing for them from the hybrid defensive end/linebacker position, LEO.
"They see me at defensive end and sometimes stand-up and sometimes covering, just a hybrid guy playing the LEO," Ford said. "It's a perfect fit."
But it wasn't just the Tennessee coaches as Tennessee commitments Austin Smith and Quay Picou recruited him during his weekend visit.
"They were great. They are the type of players I want to be with for four years so it felt comfortable," Ford added.
