'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

Reminds me of Kimbo Slice in an MMA fight. He has one or two good moves and is a physical specimen. However he is raw and lacks great technique. Looks like an athlete running around more so than someone playing DE.

That being said I can see his potential. Just hope this doesn't mean anything bad with phillips

Once again Phillips is top notch pure Strongside End. This kid is a WDE or Leo. They don't affect each other more than likely.

Ford added 14 pounds of muscle over the winter. I could see him playing at 230-235 this fall and coming in next year as a 250-lb. rush end.

He has the type of frame that will allow him to either play defensive end or outside linebacker in college, and he said either is fine with him. "I'll do it ... seems fun," Ford said of dropping back to linebacker.

As the offseason camp schedule picks up heading into spring football, Ford will have plenty of opportunities to shine, which is all he wants. "I'm really excited. I'm ready for it," Ford said. "If I show out and do what I need to I should be fine.

He said he'd like to add a few pounds to his athletic, muscular frame and since this past season Ford has gained 14 pounds from working in the weight room. He runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash and provides quite a task for opposing offensive linemen trying to stop him from coming around the end.

lol @ people writing off a 17 year old who hasn't even played his senior season yet. If he was 1 spot higher (in a subjective ranking btw) with another star next to his name, this thread would have a different feel to it.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TENNESSEE?

While the Vols may have taken several players listed as defensive ends last year, it's beginning to look like guys like Dewayne Hendrix and Derek Barnett will likely spend most of their careers on the interior of the defensive line.

Even though Tennessee has young players at defensive end like freshmen Jakob Johnson and Joe Henderson to go with second-year players Corey Vereen, Kendal Vickers and Jaylen Miller, there isn't anyone proven out of that group and Tennessee continues to need defensive playmakers with speed.

Moving forward, look for Tennessee to continue to recruit defensive ends and that starts with instate defensive lineman Kyle Phillips. The Vols are currently in a real fight for Phillips as LSU and Ole Miss are making strong pushes as well as Alabama and Ohio State.

Tennessee remains in the hunt for Georgia speedy defensive end D'Andre Walker but they aren't alone in their pursuit as Georgia remains a real factor, along with Auburn.

Tennessee continues to pursue Emmanuel Olenga after he impressed the staff at camp last month. He was on campus again Saturday for the Vols' Orange Carpet Day. Darrell Taylor, the explosive Virginia defensive end, was on campus Saturday and Tennessee will be a factor there moving forward. Even slim South Carolina defensive lineman Rasool Clemons is someone to watch.

Regardless, Tennessee is still looking to add another defensive end to the puzzle as the Vols look to get faster off the edge.
