'15 FL FB/ATH Chandler Cox

I think he should pick a spread. For an ATH like him he doesn't need to go to Bama and create space for RBs. That's not where the $ is at these days. If he can get settle as a FB/H-Back I think he'd have more success. Delanie Walker comes to mind, but there are a lot of other examples. JMO but FBs in the NFL are very replaceable. Hell that might not even be what he wants to do in life jmo

I know UF is selling him on Trey Burton and Jordan Reed type of role.
Going to be interesting to see how Matt Jones adapts to moving to Hback.

Kid is just a damn good football player.

Yeah those are both great selling points too. This is a kid you take and find roles for him to benefit the team

It's not the single wing

They used to run single wing with Jeremy gallon and tom smith etc. That offense they run now isn't that.

They only ran more with cox at QB because Darlingtin was out for the year.
They run a legit spread now with option looks and passing principles
My boy is coach on JV team.

Could someone fill me in on how he would be used in our offense? We dont use a fullback except on very rare occasions with Stocstill last year, and we dont really use an H-back like some other spread teams like Auburn.

We don't use one because we don't have a capable one to use.

Using UF as an example during Meyer tenure.. Cox would play a flex or F position. The F would mainly line up offset on the weakside just off the LOS in backfield. The F also lines up just to right or left of Qb on power keeps and most jet sweeps as lead blocker or ck down reciever. AH, Reed and Burton would also take direct snap and shovel passes. Basically its an upright fb/te.

Yea like the guy said above it seems like we lined Downs up in this role alot last year, although I question how effective it was. I think Cox would fit great in that capacity. How similar is UFs offense gonna be this year compared to Meyers?

The quotes after the UT visit are much stronger than those after auburn or bama. Not saying we land Chandler but I think we have given him something to think about for now.

Why would you say something like that? Downs is not playing because he is still recovering from surgery. Using the term "useless" is totally uncalled for. Think before you post.

He tried to block down on clowny he dove at his legs and wiffed miserably.

Nothing like a fan calling a VFL with a broken kneecap trying and failing to block the best defensive end in 15 years "useless."

I'm glad we are putting some perspective on Downs. Seems like many of us have forgotten he played injured last season. Had we more TEs last year, he would have played less. Ellis and Branisel were both out for the season with injuries. Quinn was not SEC ready. That left Downs playing through his injury. Just asking that he be evaluated fairly.

he played pretty well year before last, made some tough catches and could run... injury last year must have been a doozy

If I remember correctly, he dislocated his knee. People give players at least an 18 month pass to recover mentally/physically from an ACL tear. Why bashing Downs because he did not bounce back more quickly? ACL tears hurt...joint dislocations are excruciating in comparison. Patients walk in all the time with ACL tears. Nobody walks in with a dislocated knee.

Give him time to recover. I think that Downs, Branisel, Helm and Wolf is an incredible group of TEs to have on one roster. Just my opinion...

Totally agree with you StoVol
