Its amazing how much has to be twisted and swept under the rug to believe that TG is being recruited to be a QB at UT. You have to believe:

1. All the rumors are just smoke with no fire.
2. All the other schools letting up is just coincidence.
3. The insiders are lying or are being lied to by the coaches.
4. The coaches are lying to the other recruits or the recruits are lying about what the coaches told them.
5. Coach Mathews is lying.

Where as if you just ignore what TG says and any reports based on it then all the stories from all the other people match.

The thing about Jennings, while he could turn out to be a great college QB, I believe if he ever wants to play in the NFL he needs to play safety in college. So in the end (and this has nothing to do with Gibson coming or not) I still feel like Jennings will end up a safety, because that is his best skill set.

That said I don't care if Jennings punts as long as we win.

Common sense tells you that he is not coming to UT to play QB, if at all. Yet, there are deniers here, who are living in a make believe world.

I would also add, IMO of course, Gibson's NFL future is NOT at QB either...

I was all excited when TG popped up on our radar. I was imagining Cam Newton like scenes of winning a NC. The first Uh oh was the run in with a teacher. Then the weird almost obsessive need to get attention. Then other top coaches not wanting him. Then the puzzling visit to Knoxville.

I don't know if all of these stories and rumors are true, but if half are, I hope Butch will do the right thing for UT. I expect he knows a lot more than us speculators for his decision to recruit him or not. I think we will be fine with the 2 QBs who are committed and don't need a big distraction during this rebuilding process.

IMO it obviously can't be discounted that CBJ took another QB commitment while TG was on a visit to UT. CBJ is very much doing what is best for UT long term.

All of these Gibson quotes are damage control from that visit IMO...Dormady pulled the rug out from under him...if he sells it that "we are still pursuing him as our #1 QB target", and then he signs with Appalachian State? He is cloaked because Butch would never contradict him...too classy.

I think so as well. IMO there is a lot of damage control going on right now with TG and maybe even a certain reporter from FL trying to make sure TG stays a big deal at least till he announces.

I think Gibson and JJ are both very good athletes that could have a future at multiple positions. I want them both in orange and white. The more talent we have the better :)

Barton Simmons in response to a fan question about how gibson would be rated QB v WR v ATH:

Gibson would be maybe an 89 to me purely as a QB. More upside than Jennings. Bigger arm. More athletic. As a WR, he'd be about what he is now probably. I think Gibson's rating right now is reflective of his overall athletic upside. Not sure id have him as high as we do at any one position the more I think about it.

Also, though Gibson would be rated higher at QB based on upside, I think id take Jauan at QB personally if I'm building a team.

If that makes sense.

I missed a day or so of the crap throwing in here... would someone do me the favor of posting a link where the coaches said they are not recruiting him and they do not want him at UT?

With all the smoke that some like to keep mentioning, it would be nice to have a solid source of information that details the fire (not someone's opinion, water-cooler conjecture, or hear-say), and who is Coach Matthews? How long has he been working with recruiting in UT's athletic dept.?

This situation with Matthew's comments has been blown out of proportion. He used to be extremely connected to the program. Not so much now though. Even so, I bet he is better connected than 98% of the posters in this thread. He never said he had inside info that TG was not being recruited as a QB or WR. What he said was that he did not think so in his opinion. That was the gist of his comments. Only TG and BJ really know what the truth is unless someone on here is bugging their conversations. What is clear though is that JJ would be a great safety and he and TG would find a position somewhere on the field. To say that TG is guaranteed to never line up at QB is crazy. IF he does come here, ( not saying he is ) , then I would bet good hard earned money that he lines up at QB for at least a few plays in a season due to the fact that other teams would have to prepare for it.

Doug Mathews is more connected to the UTAD and especially to the football program than anyone outside of the UTAD.

Personally I am way more worried about pulling Tuttle and Richmond. Those are two I feel this class really needs. Phillips would be nice too. Oh, and Santa, add a Jefferson to the stocking as well while you are at it ( he was almost unstoppable on short routes at the Opening ) Thank you !

( Whew! In with the first Christmas- Santa reference? )
