Lol we don't run that bama style offense anymore

No sh!t? We didn't run the triple option last year either and Butch ran more prostyle spreads at both previous stops. Dormady will fit our system perfect TG really doesn't, inaccurate passing is detrimental in this system

I get what you're saying, but it isn't like inaccurate passing is beneficial in any system.

But I don't think that our system is the deciding factor here in any case. If TG wanted to commit a month ago, TG would be our 2nd QB this cycle. We may end up better for having taken Dormady instead, and it's still possible that we take TG as a third option. But none of that hinges solely on what system we run.

So is waiting until we already have 2 committed QBs and the class starts to fill up. But some people don't understand that either. Go figure.

Yeah I've stayed out of this thread for good reason, but I agree with burger I think he waited to late by the evidence tonight. He's not going to the Barn, UT, or OSU which were at the top of his board. May end up at UCF/Miami/? if he's set on playing QB.

JMO. Also I wouldn't have a problem taking him. Just saying

I'm just saying he is not a take at all cost, I agree the coaches probably wanted him, but he is not the end all be all just because he is a five star! There are other QBs that have different or similar skill sets that could be better fits or ready to commit and are All Vol. it kills me that as great as we are recruiting there are still people out there that ***** about shying away from one premadonna who currently just has us in his top five, while two kids that are committed and ready to make Us better are looked at as not as good because this guy has 4.3 speed? Crazy

My guess on this situation is that Jefferson may have called and committed last night. Matt posts a smiley face and the news breaks earlier today that we have cooled on TG. TG may have waited too long.

You don't really think that, though. Not only would you (surely) not want a #1 player with serious character issues, but you wouldn't (I hope) support UT taking a 25 person class that consists solely of the top 10 QB's and the top 15 RB's on the 247 board. That would be among the best classes ever when it comes to ratings, but it would be absolute garbage for the Vols football team.

I think that we would/should probably take Gibson if he came in tomorrow and wanted to make it official. But it isn't insane to say "we are closing in on a full class, and if we have to choose between a player like Phillips, DJ Jones, or DeBerry on the one hand, and Gibson on the other, an impact player at a position of need trumps a third QB in this cycle".

People seriously need to stop acting like either side of this debate consists solely of lunatics. The Gibson debate is a tough one, with good reasons in favor of each position. And, those of you who think that he is a 100% no questions asked take might be finding out otherwise if the report today is corroborated.

Most reasonable central position I've seen on here. :good!:

Geez! It's June. I'd like to see one of the undergrads avatars naked is all I got right now.

I got a couple of these dumass teenagers as a tax credit right now. You can't trust em!

If CBJ is backing off of Gibson there obviously is a reason and I trust that. I have throughout this thread have said that until I hear some official proof that CBJ is backing off his recruitment of Gibson, he is a take.

Coaches make room for top ranked players, it's a fact. If AU, OSU or Miami had a full class and Gibson wanted in I would bet the farm that they would find a way to get him in. Last year CBJ would have found a way to get Adoree Jackson in no matter what. Even if a lower ranked guy had to be sacrificed. It's how it works. Guys get recruited over all the time. Now I am not in favor of taking Gibson if that means losing a DT or OL, but I am not the coach. However a guy like Woods, Bruce or Oliver we could live without. I am happy those guys are Vols but in all honesty they are not "needs" like DT and OL.

Look it all boils down to what I have said over and over again. The coaches know what they are doings and if they feel Gibson is a take then he is. If they feel he is a QB then he is. If they feel he is a WR, the he is. If they think he is not right for our team and want to pass n him, then I support that as well. It would be questionable but I would still support that decision.

Now he's tweeting McKenzie, Ordway and Ricky DeBerry.
