Trent Dilfer was a terrible NFL quarterback. For a guy picked # 6 overall, he has to be considered a bust. Here are his career stats: 55% completion percentage, 6.5 yds / att, 0.87 TD-to-INT ratio, 70.2 passer rating. All of those numbers would put him 30th or worse among NFL QBs in 2013, around the likes of Terrell Pryor and Brandon Weeden.
Definitely the worst QB to ever win a Superbowl, and its not even close...
The blurb on volquest this morning sure made it seem like UT leads for Gibson and in return they are doing their due dillegence.
There is renewed optimism here.
He is able to put sentences together (unlike Emmitt Smith)...and he has a Super Bowl win on his resume... Great bullet points!...fail to see how that translates into watching a kid TRY to throw a football in shorts and able to determine he's a future Heisman candidate.
Everybody knows you don't want TG. Were you happy Dobbs was Elite 11? Meet Trent Dilfer.

Your presence isn't lacking in here...you put the "hate" label on anyone that disagrees with you...bet you're fun at parties. :yahoo:
That's a rather silly way to try and frame it. The stars typically indicate a higher level of talent. Nobody is saying the staff goes by the services' ranking. It's not an exact science, but it's a pretty close indicator, especially when you have multiple services evaluating the same prospect and coming to the same conclusion. You do not cut ties with players because of stars.
You fill needs at various positions of importance. You fill those needs with the best talent that you can get and talent that you yourself have evaluated, not what some analyst in his office thinks you should do based upon his star system.
On a related note, why are you and the Gibson critics hyping up Dormady when he hasn't even played in a real game since 2012? Gibson carried his team to a state championship, so he's already proven that he's a winner. We really have no idea what we're getting with Quentin Dormady.
Btw, I'm not down on Dormday at all. I'm just pointing out that he's a far less proven passer than Torrance Gibson. I'm not lingering in his thread badmouthing his potential like some people.
There must be some level of "hate" when you spend an inordinate amount of time in a player's thread who you don't want and who you think we aren't recruiting. There are only so many times you can say the same thing before it creeps into the "hate" level. I'm not completely sold on Dormady. I stay out of his thread unless I have something positive to say. You and a few other posters are on a campaign to dispute anything positive and promote anything negative real or rumor. Maybe yall are hoping he or his family reads the thread and gets pissed off? Maybe yalll think you can change others opinions who want him? Idk but it is ridiculous to stay in a kids thread every single day just to bash him and shoot down anyone who doesn't want to bash him also. Hate may not be the word but it is the closest to describing what you and the others seem to feel towards Gibson. If it was as simple as thinking he wasn't a good prospect you got that across a long time ago. To continually push your anti Gibson agenda around the clock shows some level of animosity.
Seen both their films...IMO Dormady was way more impressive passing wise AS A SOPHOMORE than Gibson's sample size...I think people get dazzled at his running 40 yards behind the line of scrimmage and actually think he'll be doing that in the SEC...I happen to disagree.
Last year, we had almost 20 4* recruits. This year we only have about 3, thus far. Sure, some of those will likely get bumped up to a 4*. But we currently have a glut of 3* players.
As excited as I am about this class, I'm equally concerned that we've also loaded up too much and too early on 3* guys. I suspect that it may not be that we are totally sold on all of them nor lowering our standards. But it does 2 things that could be beneficial in the long run:
1) Fills up the class fast and heightens the level of urgency for the upper echelon players...hoping they will commit sooner rather than later
2) Let's us secure players (early) we think are better than their current rating would indicate...and may have to fight for their commitment harder, once their stock goes up during their Senior season. Dormady, Cherry, Austin Smith, and Picou are some names that come to mind.
But the tradeoff is, if we suddenly have more elite players ready to commit, than we have spots...then you HAVE to start bumping some of those guys who committed early. Makes it an ugly situation all of a sudden.

They think that he can because Johnny Football did it...
He redshirted and studied with George Whitfield...he learned not to retreat so far...TG could learn that as well...I just don't get that same drive from him...as a hungry QB prospect, he should be pushing for QB reps at camps...he should be making sure he gets an audience with John Gruden...instead of showing up late (I don't buy the transportation issues...he somehow managed to hitch a ride to the Opening) These kind of things make me hope we pass on him...hopefully he doesn't keep that fifth star because it seems to put blinders on his worshippers.
