'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson

He redshirted and studied with George Whitfield...he learned not to retreat so far...TG could learn that as well...I just don't get that same drive from him...as a hungry QB prospect, he should be pushing for QB reps at camps...he should be making sure he gets an audience with John Gruden...instead of showing up late (I don't buy the transportation issues...he somehow managed to hitch a ride to the Opening) These kind of things make me hope we pass on him...hopefully he doesn't keep that fifth star because it seems to put blinders on his worshippers.

In a recent interview he said himself he does not want to take anymore visits where "football" was a part of the visit. He sounded as if there would be no more camps for him. He wants to "have fun" on the rest of his visits and not worry about football or talk football.

It all sounded very strange to me. If you're visiting my school and want to be considered for a football scholarship, you can bet "talking football" would be a very big part of it. JMO

On a related note, why are you and the Gibson critics hyping up Dormady when he hasn't even played in a real game since 2012? Gibson carried his team to a state championship, so he's already proven that he's a winner. We really have no idea what we're getting with Quentin Dormady.

Btw, I'm not down on Dormday at all. I'm just pointing out that he's a far less proven passer than Torrance Gibson. I'm not lingering in his thread badmouthing his potential like some people.

TG did not do it by himself. He had an 1800 yard 24 TD RB to help him. But let you tell it, TG did it all by himself.

You can't get top flight, program changing QBs to shut up about football...both Dormady and Jennings are immersed in bettering their skills and recruiting talent to THEIR school...maybe they're still having fun? :dunno:

He just got coaching at the Elite 11 and was said to have learned a lot. What do you call that?

If being honest, he should not have even been there. Unlike all the other kids there for the elite 11 finals, Gibson did not earn his spot. He was supposed to compete at the elite 11 event in Orlando to see if he could earn a spot and was a no show. Allowing him to compete in it at the Opening IMO was wrong. If people would stop rewarding kids for doing nothing, maybe a few more kids would learn to do for themselves. JMO

So that is good enough. He got coaching for a few days and now he is a Heisman contender? Interesting....

No its not the few days. Its the talent , potential and dominating the best HS talent in the country. People have been saying this the whole recruitment. Just because you and others have chosen to ignore it doesn't mean it hasn't been said repeatedly. The whole recruitment he had been compared to Vick, Vy, Pryor and, RGIII.

Maybe they let him because he is such a great prospect and they know it? Most recognize how great he could be if he develops. If anything that shows you how good he is.

For nothing... Didn't he lead his team to a state championship, in the state of Florida, in one of the highest divisions.... Just curious why the personal vendetta against him?

Last year, we had almost 20 4* recruits. This year we only have about 3, thus far. Sure, some of those will likely get bumped up to a 4*. But we currently have a glut of 3* players.

As excited as I am about this class, I'm equally concerned that we've also loaded up too much and too early on 3* guys. I suspect that it may not be that we are totally sold on all of them nor lowering our standards. But it does 2 things that could be beneficial in the long run:

1) Fills up the class fast and heightens the level of urgency for the upper echelon players...hoping they will commit sooner rather than later

2) Let's us secure players (early) we think are better than their current rating would indicate...and may have to fight for their commitment harder, once their stock goes up during their Senior season. Dormady, Cherry, Austin Smith, and Picou are some names that come to mind.

But the tradeoff is, if we suddenly have more elite players ready to commit, than we have spots...then you HAVE to start bumping some of those guys who committed early. Makes it an ugly situation all of a sudden.

On Rivals we have 8 4* committs right now. 2 -3 have potential 5* bumps and are 5* on other sites. Have atleast 5 guys that could and should be bumped to 4*. Many of those and a few others are 4* on atleast one of the services if not more. Not to mention guys like Sapp, Jefferson, Jones, Tuttle and others that are consensus 4* on other sites as well that we have good chances at getting. This class potentially could and should have a higher player average than last yrs.

It's nothing personal. Just pointing out he DID NOT earn his spot at the elite 11. There are events held around the country where kids can go and compete to EARN a spot. Gibson did NOT earn his spot. What he did last year in HS has absolutely nothing to do with the elite 11. How many other kids who won state titles were given a free pass to not have to compete to earn a spot yet hold the door open for them? That # would be 0.

Maybe, but he's STILL more qualified. People are suggesting he doesn't know anything about QB talent just because they don't want to believe TG can possibly be QB material.

Oh yeah he still more qualified than me. Im not discounting that...I'm just not a fan of his.

TG could be a great QB. He definitely has all the tools.

Since the Dilfer quotes seem to be relevant to the discussion, I figured I'd take the liberty of actually looking into the source of the quotes. You know, context. That thing. :birgits_giggle: Anyway, I thought it was an interesting piece that I hadn't seen posted yet. (My apologies if it has; these threads move at light speed)

Torrance Gibson: Exceptional football skills, but for what position?

Is he considered "top 15" if he did not compete and earn a spot? All the other guys there who are actually considered QBs and in the "top 15" still had to earn their spot.

TG was not even a QB at the Opening. He was an "ATH" and played WR.

TG is slowly getting "found out". According to everyone he is an elite 5* player but no one knows what position he can play. Sounds like no one wants to retract his rating. How much news was reported about him dominating at the opening where he played receiver? Any news on him backing up his 5* status would greatly be appreciated. Not a 5* after his senior year, IMO. #TeamDormady

I wouldn't say he is being found out, he just needs to realize that he is just an athlete.
