'15 GA CB Micah Abernathy (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Not to take this OT, but since they are mentioned with Martin and Amadi, has anyone noticed LSU's struggles in recruiting this year? And I've noticed Tyron Johnson is now picking up CB's to Oklahoma State. Very surprising.

They usually pick it up late but I'm sure opponents are throwing out the Les to Michigan talk.

I've been far less fatalistic on death, taxes and losing to Florida...get to 10 in a row?...hard to argue.

It comes in cycles as we have learned...

The addition of Abernathy keeps us at 5th in the nation on Rivals and moves us up to the third class in the nation on 247 if anyone is interested in where the class ranks currently.

oregonvol, WYLO, sjt18....some how they will find something negative about a kid of this caliber committing to us. This kid must be a moron in their eyes for committing to such a loser as Butch Jones.

Well, since we're putting words in others' mouths, I guess I'll say that once this kid gets here, DERELICK_MY_VOLS will be happy to blame him and his teammates for every single loss and post repeatedly about how they aren't any good, as long as it means he doesn't have to give one iota of accountability to the head coach he's in love with.

You're very misunderstood.... Because you insist on posting non-understandable content. :hi:

Harsh based on what? The fact that you don't like what is a part of recruiting. Name a school that is above reproach in recruiting and wouldn't dare recruit over somebody to get a better player. I'll wait...
I was responding to Leb. Go back and read the entirety of his post and mine and you'll see we're on the same page.

Happy to get this guy-- and hope his brother becomes a Vol, too. We have a long-standing tradtion of brothers here-- the McKenzies, the Colquitts, the Reveiz Bros., the Berry Bros and many more. So c'mon down, Abernathy Bros.

Why wouldnt we be?

Not sold on head coach to make sound game management decisions. 2 must win games vs Vandy last year and Florida this year...0-2.

Currently 13th best sec team imo, that's a lot of teams to leapfrog, especially considering the recruiting amongst the other SEC teams.

Even with our current #5 team ranking on Rivals, we're still only the 3rd best class in the SEC East behind SCar and Georgia.

Was looking at their class a week or so ago. They have 5-6 high end good talents on board, and then several of those guys are questionable.

Per 247's rankings, out of the top 10 prospects in LA, LSU has 3 committed. And Brossette is taking his visits and looking around.

Merritt is looking hard at A&M and Donte Jackson just named UGA his leader.

I'm telling ya, LSU is a sinking ship...their talent level is going to greatly diminish due to Alabama and A&M poaching recruits now. They can't take every kid out of the Bayou now

This is a big time steal. If Butch holds this class together he's already earned a raise in my book. We need to give him and his staff the financial vote of confidence.

My favorite part of this commitment is that he won't have to play right away. We're finally getting to the point where freshmen play because of their talent level rather than because they have to.

He may well end up playing as a freshman. He and Martin, assuming he commits, will immediately be in the two deep IMO. Both just an injury away from PT. Could also see time on STs.

Despite an overachieving qb laying it on the line behind a group of overwhelmed young O linemen, Butch has the Vols just a couple of bone-headed plays on the unlucky side of a potential 4-1 record headed into homecoming. Had the ball rolled properly on just a couple of plays, those negavols (figure it out, KB and oregon) would have to find something else to gripe about. Yes, kids, with the further addition of another top 5 recruiting class or two, there's no reason to assess UT won't be playing for championships. Unrealistic? Pleeeeeeeze!

This teams defense is going to be amazing in 2016 and on.

It's a good thing too as we will be winning games 3-0.

Maybe 9-0 on good days.

Here's to your TN 2017 Vols... the first ever NCAA football team to win the championship and only score 41 points the entire season.

Who will ever forget the 2-0 victory over Bama where the Vols won on a last minute safety?

I know I wont.

With the pressure Mackenzie, Tuttle, Barnett and company put on the QB's next year the CB's have to be licking their chops. No wonder we are landing this kid!

So they will both jump Berry, gaulden, Mosley, etc?

I don't Berry is playing corner anymore. He was working at safety and apparently RB this week. Gaulden and Payne will fight it out for nickel reps replacing Coleman IMO.

And yeah, I think they both have a shot to jump Moseley.

It's not like we have a ton of depth at corner.

This may sound insane, but I think Martin plays nickel for us for the first year. Martin has to learn to play CB the right way. He has all the intangibles, but he's not a polished CB. I think playing him at nickel would be a solid role for him. That means Abernathy will compete for the back up spot behind Cam. The other side of the field is already locked down with E.Mos and Williams.

I'll also add that I see Gaulden moving to S along with Berry. Griffin will be an EE and may outgrow the S role. Maybe we get lucking and find our next JRM.
