'15 GA DE D'Andre Walker

Walker isn’t ready to name leaders, but said his focus “for the most part” is on Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee. Those two programs also “probably” will get official visits.
He added those programs are recruiting him hardest.
Of the Vols, he noted, “I like the way their fan base is, how they’re behind their football team and believe in them.”
Walker said Tennessee also has a big need at end.
“It’s helping them a lot too,” Walker said. "Coach (Tommy) Thigpen — I talked to him one day. He told me on the sideline Coach Butch (Jones) was yelling in his ear, ‘I wish we had D’andre Walker so he could get the pass rush.’ "
With the Bulldogs, Walker said, "I have a good feel for Georgia. I feel comfortable at Georgia. Like, comfortable playing there. I could see myself playing there."
Walker will visit Georgia this weekend when the Bulldogs play host to Auburn. He said he’ll be watching both teams closely.
One major factor in his process: early playing time.
“Of course, I want to play early,” Walker said. “I want to go to college and come in and play.”
According to Walker, he likely will announce his college decision Jan. 3 at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"Honestly, I still don’t know exactly where I want to go to school at,” Walker said. “But my uncle has told me it’s about that time to start making that decision. Before it gets too late and they think I’m just actually trying to play around.”

This was the most descriptive part of the 247 article.

Everything i have heard says that Tennessee is in good shape with Walker. I think he is our main focusa on the defensive side of the ball, except for one more CB.

I think they would play different positions. I think if D'Andre and Phillips wanted to come, then someone would be encouraged to take some visits.

Walker, Phillips, DeBerry, and Taylor are all takes no matter what. I wouldn't even consider Taylor commited to us anymore. We will have to fight to the end to keep him. Really have to be careful going forward. We don't want to run off someone like Ford, and miss on all the guys above.

Why would you not consider Taylor committed?

With how hard they are recruiting both, I'd assume they would definitely take both although it is hard to see them landing both guys. They are pretty different DE's though.

Walker is more of a pure pass rusher, who could also probably be a very good OLB. He's more in the Weatherd/Maggitt mold.

Where with Phillips he's more of a Strong Side DE type who could also play DT. More in the Hendrix / Barnett mold.

He's taking a lot of visits. He's going to be hard to keep. Taylor could be the best athlete we have put at DE in a long time. He's an incredible athlete. I'm not even sure he wouldn't get a shot at SLB when he got here. He's that athletic. If we hold onto him, and we add a Walker or DeBerry, a combo of those two would create a dominating pass rushing duo.

I think that is exactly what they want in Walker...as an OLB who can pass rush.

Maggitt might be asked to take over the MLB job next year (Cherry will likely be his backup). Weatherd will likely be the OLB opposite Maybin. Walker would probably spell Weatherd, and Dillon Bates spell Maybin.

Somewhere Bryant fits into the equation, probably ahead of Cherry to be honest.

Everyone is forgetting about Jakob, who is the current back-up to AJ. Why would the coaches make Curt learn an entirely new position his last year, especially when he is really starting to settle into the Leo and dominate now? He can be the leader of the defense, along with JRM, and not play Mike.

I'm speculating here obviously, but Kurt seems like one of those guys who is smart enough that he understands the big picture and the responsibilities of the players around him well enough that switching positions would probably be easier for him than it would be for most guys. Also, Jakob is still relatively inexperienced and would probably benefit from another year as a back-up to continue learning the game and developing. Those are the reasons I think it makes sense. However it shakes out, replacing A.J. will be one of the biggest stories of the coming off-season.

Big game tonight.

I wonder if we will start to hear more about Atkinson again with Sapp being an enigma and Cherry trending towards Texas?

Thigpen also met with D'Andre Walker while in Georgia this week and we are trying to confirm an official visit date with Walker. We've heard it's possible the four-star defensive end makes his Tennessee official visit as early as this weekend or next. But, it's been hard to get in touch with him lately to nail down specifics.
