'15 GA OL Marquel Harrell

That could be. I had felt for a while he could very well recommit to ole miss IF UT slow played him as I felt they may. What I see is there is a VERY good chance UTs class is closer to 20 than people on here think. CBJ can't just fill the class up with nowhere to put the kids. There are a lot of position needs and taking 5-6 at 1 is impossible unless you want to suffer at other spots.

We'll see what happens.

I know you get a lot of flack about all the numbers talk (and you do talk about it quite a bit) but in this case I think it's a good point to make. The numbers could well be a reason they weren't willing to take Harrell commitment at this point, IF that's actually what happened as it's purely speculation right now.

That is the exact reason the numbers argument in valid in any thread on the forum. Unless we are talking about one of the tippy top kids in the class, numbers come into play.

The coaches took several more commitments than they had spots for last cycle. Expect to see this again this year. The numbers will be properly whittled by NSD, just like they were in the '14 class.

Is this confirmed or just speculation at this point?
Speculation. Austin Golson is from Prattville and is possibly looking to transfer closer to home because of an illness in the family. He comes from an Auburn family so most feel like we would be an obvious choice. Nothing concrete though and I'm not even sure his transfering is even set in stone at this point. We "appear" to be in good shape with Kim but as you can see, nothing is a given in recruiting. Carr is anyone's guess.

Do you think Harrell's commitment will be accepted?

This can't be right about Golson. Bama acts like they can get anyone they want from the Autauga County Lions. He must have failed to turn his suit size in at the Tuscaloosa Mall.

Different situation. There's no wiggle room with the 85 roster cap like there is with the 25 signing limit.

Sure there is. As much, if not more even. The wiggling isn't with the number 85 itself, but there are always transfers, washouts, etc, even from guys you don't see it coming from. Pig Howard was probably going to start in the slot this fall, and now VQ says they don't even know if he'll be on the team. Stuff like that happens.

There's no wiggle room with the actual 85 rule. It's a hard cap. With the 25 you have back counts and blueshirt nonsense. With the 85, as you said, it's roster management.

I think it's a bad thing if we see enough attrition to get to 25. If we want to compete in 2015, we're going to need several guys to develop into upperclass contributors rather than running them off and relying on freshman.

I don't. If they're bwing let go, it's because they're underperforming. This staff has a good history at developing

The problem with that is that our fan base won't give them enough time to develop our players. If we go 5-7 people will be calling for the AD to fire Butch, unfortunately. I do agree that they are very good at developing though.

If we took a blueshirt or 2 last year then it affects this years numbers. We can only take 23-24 this year, tops. Now if Butch can somehow fit 25 into this class, he would have to blueshirt to get the full 25.

Fort was surprised by this and he usually hints when a dude isn't a take. I'm thinking Harrell just chose Auburn for whatever reason.

Not this year. They'd ask for Bajakian or Jancek this year. Next year tho

I agree with this. I also believe you will see alot of development from alot of guys in year 2.

All the more reason I would rather see a class of around 20 as that tells me the staff is actually developing some of the talent on campus.

Fair point. But honestly, a lot of talent we can bring in this year is much more talented than Greg King, Kenny Bynum, Woody Quinn, and a few others.

It could be. Recruiting is never a sure thing. Jones was taking Bynum at Cincy. He did sign Quinn at UT. I think the misconception is that taking a high 3* or 4* recruit always translates to being better than what is on campus. Just not always the case.
