'15 GA OL Marquel Harrell

It could be. Recruiting is never a sure thing. Jones was taking Bynum at Cincy. He did sign Quinn at UT. I think the misconception is that taking a high 3* or 4* recruit always translates to being better than what is on campus. Just not always the case.

Yes, but Bynum had zero big time offers til we offered. Classic Big East recruit. Personally, I believe Quinn was signed because it was a last ditch effort at recruiting and he is an intriguing athlete that never panned out. You're right about the misconceptions a lot of times though.

Stanford wanted him.they do well with LBs and DL. I think there are some other marginal players outside of Bynum you should be focused on. I don't think he's that bad or really a main liability.Hes just depth. When Bryant gets here that will change again.

Bynum is still not that bad of a Player. 2nd string MLB. Is he an All SEC player no, but he's had a really good spring this year.

Time to rebuild this roster. Have to get away from stocking up on players that are "not that bad"

He's not the problem though.

Stanford wanted him and they would beat our ass by 35

And if you scroll up you will see that I said when Bryant gets here things will change for him.

I expected it to slow down quite a bit. When you consider about 1/2 the class is already in place, it had to slow down with 9 months till NSD 2015.

I understand. I guess I just get depressed when I see that Alabama has 9 recruits in ESPN's top 100, and we have 1. So how ever are we going to beat them? Their coach ain't half bad either. :cray:

They are winning games.
We also have 4 ESPN 300 recruits right now. Signed like 10 last yr. The staff really couldn't be doing a Better job. What are you expecting?

I'm not part of the "must have passed on him" crowd usually but that seems to be the case here. Fortenberry hinted he may have tried to commit at the orange and white game and couldn't.

When I read his comments that AU was a better program with better coaches, that stung a little bit. Maybe he is a little bitter.

My conspiracy theory:

Harrell according to rivals is up to 320+ lbs. Butch wants quicker lineman. I think Butch may have passed on him.
He is only a junior in high school, and will probably get even bigger. I just think his commitment came out of the blue

For a long time, I've felt like the ratings that come out every year only paint a small part of the picture of what a recruit is and can be. It's hard to place a number on someone's max potential. I'd take a 3* who absorbs skill and knowledge like a sponge and is coachable over a 5* who might be plateaued. I don't know how many times I've been pleasantly surprised by how skilled some of our lower rated recruits become.

It's going to happen sometimes. Coaches have to make these kids feel very wanted and lead them to believe they are tops on their board from day 1. Once a kid realizes he is being slow played, it can go bad in a hurry. I felt early on this one could turn out bad for the kid. He de-committed from ole miss thinking CBJ and company was going to take him and he could be a Vol. I was not so sure. I mentioned that and got bashed(as usual) for it. I did not want to see the kid try and commit to UT and then IF they did not take him he is forced to try and get back in with ole miss. Maybe he tried to do that, or maybe he saw au as a better option than trying to mend the fence so to say with Freeze and OM. Kid can play in the SEC, so he should be fine.

So you're the VN whipping boy?

His loss would hurt if we didn't have some good lineman committed, as well as some good lineman still high on us.

If you watched his film you would see that quickness and agility are some of his strengths.

If he can fit in to auburn's system I'd say he could fit in to ours. Jmo
