'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

On 247, Ryan told someone that Quarte is a quiet person in regards to his recruitment. He thinks we are still in the driver's seat, but he would try to catch up with him to see if he could find out the latest news.

The last comment I saw, either from Fortenberry or Hubbs was that they weren't sure how hard TN is pushing for a commit. This was just after his last UV. Strange, considering they had said up until the weekend of his visit that the staff really wanted him and liked him more than Atkinson.

They do like him more than Atkinson. My only guess is that the coaches are thinking about taking another position instead of OLB.

That is strange. I'm sure Butch is having to be sure with these last spots. We are in on so many elite recruits ie. Tuttle, Richmond, Jefferson, Phillips, Settle etc., he has to decide what we need the most. I still hope we have room for Sapp. Kid looks pretty elite, as well.

I wonder since Weatherd made it in, if the needs changed, as you are mentioning. I still think that Sapp is a take and a silent, but I think we will cool on Atkinson unless we don't land Sapp.

Yeah, that sounds about right. It seemed like they really wanted another OLB. Maybe with the problems we have had in the past getting DTs, the staff wants to take 3 5* DTs this class. McKenzie, Tuttle, Settle is just staight up nasty! Teams probably wouldn't have much success runnng the ball up the gut of that defense. Hard decisions for our coaching staff, but it's much more enjoyable for the fans to be in on so much talent.

I'd be shocked if they were taking another position over LB. Butch just said a day or two ago that LB was a position they still needed to address in recruiting. He likes what we have but need more bodies and depth.

As we have seen in the past, when the staff cools on one recruit, they usually have something bigger lined up.

That or someone already on the roster started balling out in practice and the recruiting needs shifted. My guess is that the coaches quietly like what they're seeing from Dillon Bates & Elliot Berry.

Yep. That could certainly be it too.

Bates, Berry, Creamer, and Weatherd have impressed by all accounts so maybe it has become less pressing of a need. One thing I know for sure is that none of us will ever know.

Even then I think there is less quality depth at Lb than other positions except OL. My opinion is that maybe the LB from Cali, John Houston is seeming interested. Or maybe they think they'd like a hybrid guy like jalen dalton. Who knows? Those are just my conspiracy theories.

Very true. I think it's also possible that they plan on going to a nickel package almost full-time this year, thus necessitating only 2 LBs and simplifying our recruiting into SLB-types (AJ, Bynum, Bryant, Creamer, Cherry) and WLB-types (JRM, Bates, Berry, maybe Weatherd). Viewed through that scheme, our depth doesn't look so bad.

Good point. Doug Matthews spoke to that some a couple of weeks ago. Said that is the reason so many DBs are being recruited.

Settle is a hard one to figure. He is having some grade issues and we still want him but not if it means he is headed to juco. Would be awesome if he made the grades and we got him and Tuttle. Might mean telling someone else to look elsewhere if the grade issues are real muddy until late in the process.

If we were to land Settle, and I feel confident we are going to get Shy's commitment, and of course Kmac and Quay....

My Laaawwwwwdddddd
