'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Very true. I think it's also possible that they plan on going to a nickel package almost full-time this year, thus necessitating only 2 LBs and simplifying our recruiting into SLB-types (AJ, Bynum, Bryant, Creamer, Cherry) and WLB-types (JRM, Bates, Berry, maybe Weatherd). Viewed through that scheme, our depth doesn't look so bad.

I think LB is a need even in a 2 LB set. Isn't Weatherd moving to DE? Creamer seems like a long term project and Bynum and King are simply depth guys.

1. No. Not yet, and we have plenty of depth at end (Weatherd)
2. Probably so but he'd been doing well this fall (Creamer)
3. Bynum's been taking 1st team reps behind AJ when they sat him to prevent injury

Sapp is a must get IMO, We Need another long rangy LB to bring in with Austin Smith, literally because most of the LB's we signed last class are switching to DE (Weatherd, Jakob Johnson) and Elliott Berry seems to be tearing it up in the Nickel spot. We only have Gavin Bryant, Bynum, and Cherry as our MLB next year, and our OLB will be Bates, Maybin, Austin Smith, and we need a fourth at least in Sapp.
Plus Sapp looks like the perfect fit for the type of Defense Butch is looking for. Smart, explosive, long and rangy who can also defend TE's. He's not stiff which has killed us in the past.

I think C McDowell could put on 20lbs and be an OLB. Or at least a hybrid type playing in the nickel spot. With his size and toughness I don't think that move would be to far fetched especially with Swafford coming on at safety.

Eman Moseley could put on 40 more lbs and play MLB... He bad!

I was thinking that too, if he can run like a corner. But the advantages of keeping him at safety are huge, literally. Having guys his size with elite athleticism and a willingness to bring the pain is precisely how you build a collegiate Legion of Boom.

PFort doesn't think we have cooled on Quarte, just that we are in a bigger battle with Miami than initially thought and he just isn't ready to decide yet.

This Cane't be serious. Miami? UT-zing me?

Their fan support is awful. Nothing like a gameday on the Hill

No one goes to the U for the fan support because is never there. I was in the Orange Bowl in '03 when it was a matchup of two top 12 teams and there was still 6-7k empty seats. Miami offers advantages many schools can't compete with, same as USC and UCLA (look at their fan "support").

He's going to be great at safety.

Tennessee ruined the Miami fan support back in January of 1986. They haven't been the same since.

A 35-7 ass waxing when you are thinking you're about to be National Champs will do that though. :eek:lol:

This is nothing directed at you, but why does everyone think Weatherd is moving to end? Isn't he just 225 lbs right now? I keep seeing this mentioned is why I ask. Just feels like he's the perfect outside linebacker to me.

It was reported earlier this week that he had been practicing some on the D line. There were some comments that he looked pretty good there but obviously needs to put on weight.

I hope he balls out, but if the intent is to play him at end, I'm scratching my head how an "instant impact" JUCO is a good fit.

Now back to Sapp...

If he played any snaps at and, it would be solely as a pass rush specialist. 3rd and 9. "Chris, kill the Quarterback."

He's not long, he's 6'1 at the most around 200lbs. He's actually a bit undersized......

John Chavis type linebacker. JRM is too. get the kid who is a little undersized but can move a little bit. Put some weight on him and you got yourself a good Linebacker.
