'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Our numbers at safety aren't hot either....

OK, so here are our safeties going forward...

Swafford
Kelly
McDowell
Orta
L. Johnson
McNeil

It seems we are in decent shape here...assuming Kelly and McDowell eventually take the starting spots I feel decent about Swafford as a depth guy...McNeil at least brings a ton of experience...its seems Orta and Johnson are just Special Teamers at this point. At least for next year we aren't in terrible shape. It would definitely be good to have a good one sign this year...I'm blanking on who we have committed that is a safety prospect???

we've got a long and athletic one in Griffin in the 2015 class and I wouldn't be shocked to see someone like Jennings, Gaulden, or one of the Berrys try their luck there if the need is present

So basically we have 3 freshmen(Berry, McDowell, and TKjr) who we hope can play at a high SEC level. And Randolph at the other spot(he's had injury woes). Swafford is a depth guy but not a full time starter guy and the others are being recruited over. How's the numbers at Safety looking again with QUALITY players?

If you base any of your depth arguments on "we have _ freshmen that we hope can play" then you might as well say we have ABSOLUTELY NO depth anywhere considering we have 40-45 guys on this team who have never played a snap of D-1 college football. My point was in regard to recruiting in 2015. We don't have to stockpile at safety this cycle.1-2 good prospects will be sufficient unlike OL and DL where we need a lot of guys and we still need an LB or two and a couple CBs. That's all I'm saying.

We can't move guys either if you want to not take a lot of guys at safety. I don't know why everyone wants to always move a big safety. Landon Collins was big when he hit Bama. Hasn't gained a huge amount of weight either.

I'm SO WITH YOU on this!...it's become a major pet peeve for me that we can't even get halfway through the RECRUITMENT of an NFL sized safety, without turning him into a linebacker...all under the auspice of WWJCD...what would John Chavis do...yes he achieved canonization for Al Wilson and Eric Westmoreland with his philosophy of converting 4.6 running backs and safeties into relatively speedy linebackers, but as in your example of Landon Collins...sometimes when you have an NFL quality safety?...USE HIM THERE!!!

Nods to you on your Gaulden stance...he's going to be a beast corner!

I definitely agree that we can't be moving these guys to LB - I'm with you, if McDowell and TKJ are big safeties then that is a major plus assuming they can run!

I just made the observation that CM had the make up to make the transition if we fell short in recruiting LBs, I didn't say he was definitely making the move. I like big hard hitting safeties that make a receiver think twice about making a catch. In fact, with QS being an undersized, speedy LB, I think he would make an excellent big safety. Or not

Sapp will be an awesome linebacker.

Now you're going to move a LB to safety???? Why not just keep him a LB and be done with it?

Just a joke, my man. I'll leave the player eval to those that get paid the big bucks. Hope we get this kid and I hope CM is a beast of a safety. It's nice to have talent to be excited about again.

And we will. Butch won't get the Dooley treatment.

Most will, but if things go badly, it will start. There are some that are already lined and ready to pounce because he named Worley the starter. There are alot of people that appear to believe they can judge QB talent better than he and Bajakian can.

This converting a player for genius points thing is a slippery slope BB.

Genius? Suppose I did invent the chair suit. It's a dress suit with a fold up chair sewn in to the ass. Not my best idea but maybe you heard of it? :shades:

Just kidding, man. :birgits_giggle:
