'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Get your popcorn...sounds like Butch might be planning multiple booms to kickoff the first game week!

From 247...

"I've been hearing the same, but I can't confirm that right now. I do think there's a good chance Sapp could announce something soon, regardless of whether it's this weekend, and Tennessee remains the favorite to land him."

I've been walking around with a gameboner since camp started. Should I consult a medical professional?

On Quarte Sapp, here is what we know. Some very, very close to Sapp would like to see him do something in the next week and possibly as early as today. But, no one is really sure what Sapp is thinking.

Sapp doesn't talk very much and he doesn't give things away very easily so that is something we will be watching and hopefully trying to get in touch with him to see if anything happens.

What's the difference between ILB and OLB? I see deberry and sapp are both listed as OLB, even though one is 50 lbs heavier.

I think one is considered a 3-4 OLB, and the other 4-3. There's definitely a difference there

ILB plays inside, OLB plays outside.

Lol, nice.

I know SAM is on the tight end (no pun intended), and Will is on the opposite side. Is OLB and ILB just another name for Sam and will? Or is mlb/ILB the same thing?

OLB is the Sam or Will. Typically Will backers are gonna be your better cover guys and have backside B gap. SLB will play to the strong side C gap.

Basically Sam will have more run responsibility and usually cover the #3 receiver(TE or Back) on the strong side while the WLB will man up with a WR more often.

Generally, assuming a 4-3 base:

Sam = strong side (the side the tight end/full back/H back is set up; should generally be your bigger, tougher OLB who can shed blocks and play the run or pass).

Will = weak side (the opposite side of strong; your quicker OLB who can cover, rush the passer, etc.)

MLB plays the middle, calls the D, lines everyone up, shoots the run gaps, plays sideline to sideline, sometimes will have responsibility for a QB, RB, TE or Slot WE on a drag.

That's real basic, but a start.

So ILB and mlb is the same thing, and the 2 OLB will be the Sam and will. Thanks to you and chavis for the LB 101

Yup. They pretty much covered all bases.

Another thing to consider. If there is a big linebacker who could potentially be a defensive end or a linebacker, he will be listed as an outside linebacker on recruiting sites (Sam). Alternatively, a big safety who appears to outgrow safety but still be on the small side for a linebacker will be listed as an outside linebacker by recruiting services as well. I.E. Sapp and Deberry.

Seems like this guy is going to make a move this weekend as well. Let's hope it is for the good guys. Commence: Operation BOOM-end.

BOT, what you hearing on Richmond?

That CBJ and the staff really want him and they feel like they lead at this point. That's not very helpful I know but that's all I've got.

I expect us to pick up Sapp today.

Unfortunately, I've heard that Van goes elsewhere. UGA is best guess at this point.

That's all I've heard lately. I think we still lead for Shy and Settle if the staff wants him.
