'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

My thoughts exactly. It makes zero sense to me. They want Richmond but feel he is an extreme longshot, but yet they don't have room for Allen who they've been recruiting hard for a long time and who also plays at a position they have been in full blown scramble mode at for months...Just odd.

Richmond is a silent, and Butch wants it all to come off as a huge NSD surprise?? Agree with you, MH. We have to have room for one more OT. If they are telling Allen that he has lost his chance, then something is even fishier with Richmond.

We need another athletic OLB.

He is a top 300 player on ESPN, Top 250 on Rivals and in the Top 247 composite.

Every site has him as a 4* so he will help our class ranking.

He looks like a future JRM type LB in a few years.

I am pumped.

So you're saying he isn't a 5*? DO NOT WANT

Guess I shouldn't have put the Richmond thread on ignore a long time ago...lol

Anyone know how to take a thread off of 'ignore'?

EDIT: Found it. nvm

Agreed everyone acts like because we have 2 good players somewhere we are now as deep as an SEC Title contender should be.

We are still paper thin in a few spots and this class is really doing a great job with our overall depth pretty much everywhere but probably OT unless we land one of Richmond or Allen.

All in all about as perfect of a class as you could ask for.
You are probably right about the class.

Most programs have spots that look paper thin at this time of the year... after departing players are gone but before NSD. Most teams end up with true Fr providing the 3rd layer depth and some part of the two deep. So I guess I wouldn't agree with your overall conclusion about contender depth. UT may or may not have the right talent providing depth... but the roster isn't completely "abnormal" for an SEC contender either. The newcomers will make UT look a lot more like a "contender" roster except for being a little more Soph heavy.

I guess my point was that UT is probably deeper at OLB than the positions the guy listed.

Agreed. This class will almost perfectly adress some future needs. I think we can become a contender with this class sooner than people expect if all the pieces fall into place.

Sapp is more important to the long term success of this team than Bruce? Let me guess because he is a 4* and Bruce is a 3*?? Gimme a break.

No, because we have a pretty deep recieving corp and are a little thin at LB. Bruce is not going to be a RB for us, he is too small, and we have punt returners and other slot receivers. The kid out of Michigan can play the slot if need be. Weatherd will be gone after this season and so will CM even though he is putting his hand in the dirt as well. That is why a LB is more important.

I like Sapp as a player but I'm perfectly fine landing Richmond and Allen and him taking his indecisiveness elsewhere.

And before someone starts with the holier than thou most important decision of his life crap, this is Michigan State and UT. There should be no decision for a kid from Georgia.

There is no indecisiveness. Sapp is committing to UT at 12:30 today. 100% guarantee. Michigan State isn't a real threat.

A lot of this stuff has just been stirred up by the scouting services to induce drama, which is what most commitments near or on signing day are. 99% of uncommitted kids know exactly where they are going by now. The recruiting sites need the drama so the kids sometimes play along.

Was it you that made the statement about him taking our last spot if he was given the ok?

Yes, I am pretty surprised it is actually happening though.

I guess they have a Richmond contingency plan in place for NSD.

My guess is they have someone like a Kyle Oliver that they are ready to ask to grey or blue shirt or something if they land him.

Mich State may be a threat if we don't have room.

I think he was always wanted but waited on a better offer that never came. Now we're about full up and IDK how we make room for him.

i already said pennington..he was the qb...again people i was just discussing the east tn who went to ut...this does not need to be a discussion about the dozen or so players that are legitimate in the past 15 years...which is still basically pathetic considering almost anywhere in the south produces kids...it is a fact that not many east tn kids who end up at ut do anything worthwhile...i know that may ruffle some local feathers but it is just the way it is...the purpose was to say that if bruce was not apart of the class for some reason or told to grey/blue shirt then you probably have a higher percentage chance that the player taking his spot will be better is all...i hope bruce is a great vol...he definitely reps ut and bleeds orange...im just talking percentage/chance and nothing more...each individuals success is up to them alone

My last post was about why Bruce was not as important to the team as Sapp. This post is a fact here. Pretty much with the exception of Maryville the football in East TN is not exceptional. Look at the offer list for kids coming out of East Tn. If a kid is really a player like TKjr Bama and others will offer irregardless of proximity to Knoxville. If they are not they will have offers from UCF, GA SOUTHERN, UNA, etc. I am tried of losing and if it meant not having one kid on the team from Tennessee but we could win NC's I will take the Natty's.

Why MSUn is known for their defense. That is what they hang their hat on. That said I am not keen on th way the kid has played this and I am not as sure as most he commits to us.

The Darrell Miller that retweeted this 25 minutes ago?

"Hyped for #VolsNSD15 Can't wait to see that fax come in! Rocky Top! #VFL #GBO"

People on here have had him decommitted or recruited over five minutes after he verballed...won't stop until after his fax comes in next Wednesday.

Maybe some people just want to get out of the south and see different parts of the country. Michigan does make the least sense, but still. He may like it, no fault in the kid for that. Grow up mate.

I'm pretty sure you're right.

Unofficial according to what I remember from his thread. Never saw anyone confirm that it was an official visit.

I like Bruce and I think he is the kind of player that could develop into a solid player for us but you don't use space on that type of player in a class like this when you have so many great players wanting in. You pull the commitment of a player like Ford but take Bruce? I just can't see it.

I'm pretty sure Bruce himself said it was an official visit in an interview
