'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Maybe you have a different definition of manhandled, but In my observation Justin Coleman was the most physical CB we had. A great tackler as well. He just COULD NOT cover anyone. Which is horrible if you're playing CB.

He was a safety, a smaller athletic safety. He was playing out of position.

But I never saw WR's block him into oblivion or seen him get trucked by rb's and any other ball carrier.

Also McNeil is playing out of position. He is too slow and cant cover good enough against faster receivers. He would have been a better olb imo. He still takes bad angles and doesnt have last line of defense speed

Martin will be fine. Needs to gain weight but that isn't hard when you are an athlete under our nutrition program.

Don't make this into a bigger issue than it is.

He's going to be a very very good player

I really want both Soph Safeties starting even though I know that won't happen. :)

I hear this. Randolph and McNeil have been soldiers for us but Kelly and Berry are just flat out more talented.

Absolutely. I have never agreed with the seniority concept. Play your best players regardless of how long they've been in the program. If you wanna play, be the best at what you do. Period

I bet if he is a shut down corner, CJJ will scheme around lack of physicality and give him only secondary run support. D. Sanders played a whole career an only had about 3 tackles!

Not that he can cover like Sanders!!😁

Never say never. All it would take is an injury and then one of those guys gets a chance and never relinquishes it.

But Todd got a ton of playing time. i expect Evan to be used at nickle some, and rotating a good amount with Brian. Or even on the field the same time in certain packages. Not to mention starting kick returner.

I also anticipate Martin helping us there as well. Kick returner.

Randolph is a good player. I'm not so sure TK and Berry are better than him at this point in their careers.

Randolph and McNeil.

It's such a luxury to have Senior talent with multiple years of starting experience at both safety spots. If there's somewhere I want a Senior who is maybe slightly less talented above a younger talent then it's at Safety.

Bad place to have a brain fart.

Deion was more physical than people think. He also was hardly ever thrown around. He just held the edge in the running game. Wasn't going to tackle anybody but he would just do his job.

I hear this a lot about Prime Time. but it's false. He wasn't a tackling machine, but he could tackle, and he was very good at knocking receivers out of their routes. That's physicality.

If Martin turns out out to be a great cover man, he will most certainly play if not start. But you have to be able to tackle to start. From what I've seen, Martin looks willing to come up in run support. So he just needs to add good lean muscle.

Don't forget about Gaulden! Think he was playing nickel during spring and was doing well there. Doesn't mean Berry won't play there some, but the feeling I got was RG at nickel and EVAN at safety. Either way, I truly believe our db's are fixin a gonna start causing major problems for our opponents!

Yes those are major advantages for those two. Closing speed and ball skills as well.

The eye-opener for me was when Kelly made that pick on the sideline with one foot in bounds. Happened late last season. We haven't had a safety who could make that play in quite some time.

He was even surprised he had made that pick. (Against Vandy). Was so bang bang neither he nor the coaches pushed for it to be reversed to an interception...until after TV replay caught it...just pure natural instinct and football intelligence...and he got :victory: feet in BTW.

He was saying he caught it for a quick sec then he was going to let it go. But a freshman making that level of play is thing. Most players make their biggest jump after their first year on the field. He's got to get more physical in the run game but it's coming and fast.
