'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Haden was a top 10 pick. If Sutton is a 1st rounder ill be surprised.

He's better at this point. It's not even close. Haden first year he got killed.

I can't even remember his freshman year so you are probably right.

Cam also has better NFL measurable than Haden. Let's just all enjoy the kid while he's here. He's about as special as they come.

Cam should get his degree. All these kids leaving early without a degree are learning that lesson.

But the degree can always wait. The NFL window (especially for a potential to get drafted real high in a shallow pool of candidates) is open for a short while and I don't fault any kid for leaving early.

Not kids that get hurt their senior years and miss out on immediate millions.

Still got a degree. That in itself is worth more than a second round pick or later.

To the other post, you got to still pay your living expenses when you go back.

If he's committed to getting a degree, it's a simple process to set aside part of your signing bonus and finish off your course load. Online options also...plus, a lot of these kids are in line to graduate by the end of their junior years...what if that happens?

Tennessee (not sure about other schools), allows athletes to return and finish their degrees at no cost IIRC in the event they leave school short of completing them to pursue professional careers.

Lots of kids disprove this theory on a yearly basis. 2nd rd NFL grade>>>a degree in General Studies. Cam happens to be majoring in Pharmacy, which is an extended degree/post-grad program anyway. He will be playing in the NFL before pursuing those endeavors.

The purpose of college is not simply to get a degree, it is to acquire skills to make yourself a valuable commodity in the marketplace to make an income (a lesson I wish I learned at a younger age). For Cam, that will be an NFL career. He should leave at the point where his value is maximized.

College teaches discipline IMO. Are you going to wake up for your 8:15 class, or are you going to sleep in? Are you going to do your homework early and read ahead for class, or are you going to drink some beer and watch TV with your pals. College taught me a few things. One, life's not fair. Two, life doesn't care about your personal problems. Three, there's a lot of smart people out there who can do half the work and come out with the same results as you, aka life's not fair. Obtaining a college degree illustrates to the world that you have the drive to go after something that takes multiple years, and once you obtain the degree it proves that you are at some level trainable.

I can agree with those things. Although I'd say I was probably an undisciplined college student and I still got a Master's degree. Having a real job with bills to pay and a family to support has taught me more about discipline than college ever did.

Excellent argument. Never actually heard it said that way.

I was thinking it's part of the V4L program.

That is almost the exact argument my dad has made for years about early entries into the draft...College is to prepare you for your next stage in life, whether it be a history teacher,an engineer,or DB in the NFL...if going to college for 3 years enhances his ability to become an NFL DB,then his college experience has been a success...

I'm pretty sure with the VFL program, any player can come back and finish their degree. So no, I wouldn't blame Cam one bit for leaving after his junior year. In fact, if he keeps progressing like he is, he would be crazy not to.

Education is what you put into it. The kids are getting screwed on a real education some what. I oppose things like thursday night games.
College is about educating kids first, then becoming a NFL player. If the kids want to play football their whole life, semi-pro would be a route to take. This would be a discussion in another thread.

Lets go back to Justin Martin.
