'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

wtf...why does a guy sitting on his ass get paid more then 50% of Americans that work for a living?

He has to prep and announce every single bball game and football game, not to mention the weekly radio shows. That's not a high salary, way less than I thought it would be. I'm guessing he gets some perks aside from that too.

I mean he sucks and doesn't deserve that money because he should be fired, but a good announcer at UT I'd think would be paid more than that.

Have y'all listened to other college football games on radio? Kesling is much better than a lot of those guys out there. There are some brutal calls out there. I wish Mike Keith was our play by play

I listen to a lot of radio guys with all my travel for work. Kesling is one of the worst I've ever heard.

Keith wanted the job but they gave it to Kesling instead.

If you ever get a chance listen to the local S. Carolina broadcasters from UT-SC of last year. You'll appreciate Kesling a lot more actually. I've never heard a more biased bunch of crybabies than I did listening to them broadcast. He has his faults, but Kesling is very professional and very unbiased.

Totally agree about the SC guys, although I think the Auburn guys are huge homers as well. For the record, Kesling is pretty bad, but Eli Gold is downright terrible.

You're are correct, he's not a homer.. I lived in SC for a while and they are very homer. I was referring to Kesling ability to paint a picture and make the listener feel like he's not missing anything. Not to mention basic things like down and distance, scoreboard, and time on the clock reminders. Being a homer doesn't mean you don't have ability. Heck Mike Keith is fairly homerish and he's one of the best in the business.

Keith sounds like a weasel and would make the broadcast unbearable. Kesling actually has some enthusiasm when he calls a game.

Kesling or Obama?

J/K, Kesling isn't bad but they just don't make them like the old days like Ward, Munson, etc. I like them to be a little homerish but not obnoxious about it, it's why Ward was absolutely great.

Btw, Bill Anderson was great too. Great combo. Kinda like Carson and McMahon.

Nailed it. That was part of Ward's genius. Consummate professional, incredibly talented. Was put on this earth to do exactly what he did. Sure do miss him.

The Westwood One radio guys are usually superb. Don't know their names, but I love when I'm driving through their radio waves for football games. You never hear "DEEP pass completed to....to....to....North on the sideline. Gain of 3" like Kesling.

Now this I 100% agree with. He kills me with this stuff. Example:

Kesling (on the radio): "It's 3rd down and about 8 to go, Worley takes the snap, hand off to Lane, Lane gets out to the 35!!!"

Listener: "Soooo........ is the 35 a first down?"

Drives me crazy.

Perfect example. I feel so lost when I have to listen to him.

Drives me crazy, too. I used to like to listen to John Ward call the game on the radio while sitting in Neyland. I tried that with Kesling a couple of times and went absolutely crazy. Besides the pronunciations, calling the wrong player's name for making a tackle, etc. - the down and distance calls are so stupid. In the above example he would follow with "Lane falls forward for a couple" and the next call would be, "First down, Volunteers." Really bad. I no longer use the radio, reduces stress.
