'15 LA RB Kendall Bussey (Former UT commit)

I think this was a mutual parting of ways. I personally think we upgraded with Kelly, espially with Bussey being injured.

I think we will "lose" 2-3 more guys by or on NSD while adding Richmond and 1 more surprise on NSD.

This class is already great and after we add Richmond (fingers crossed) and one more it will be one of the best in UT history.

I love Butch Jones and this staff.

When he was committed to us, I was jacked about what he was going to do on the field here.

When he decommitted, I realized that we did not want anyway. Just another 4 Pre-Madonna anyway!

It's just the VN Way.

since Kendall Bussey Jr. opted for Texas A&M's scholarship offer right now rather than enrolling at Tennessee this summer and then going on scholarship.

I'm sure it is already posted here somewhere, but I don't feel like looking. Since when did we become so comfortable with our RB depth that we blue shirt Bussey but offer scholarships to guys like Bruce and Perry?

Bruce and Perry have had scholarships for a while now. Bussey hasn't. But telling him he was going to blue shirt was the best thing to do. If he goes for it, cool. If not, chances were he would flip anyway. We need RBs but I don't think the coaches were very confident in his commit. But all speculation at this point.

What the heck is blue shirt?

A scholarship that may or may not come.

No. A blue shirt is when you walk on for a short period of time (it may only be a day) and then you are put on scholarship which is debited to the next year's initial counters. However, you are eligible to play immediately.

A grey shirt is when you delay your entry to a university until the January after you would have enrolled and are an early enrollee in the next years signing class.

The grey shirt is more dangerous in terms of being left out because who knows what happens during the months that you are waiting to enroll. You might get hurt, be recruited over, or situation just change. The blue shirt gets you on campus, on scholarship, and on the team immediately.

The article posted in the numbers thread said a BS is paying his own way till a scholarship becomes available. I also read it as a BS is not guaranteed a scholarship. Looked like a risk to me.

Here is what I saw.

A blueshirt is a player who arrived on campus as a "preferred" or "recruited" walk-on and goes on to earn a football scholarship. The NCAA doesn't allow for schools to produce written promises of scholarships to walk-ons, but that doesn't stop a school from telling a prospect who walks on that an offer is coming after a certain point.

As we all know the promise of a scholarship "at some point" means nothing. Imo, it's a risk.

Then why even coin the term Blue Shirt if all it is is a PWO spot. The very nature of the BS means that you will be on a scholarship but it will be counted toward the next years class. I believe it was Robertson last year that did it.

Don't ask me. I see it as a kid taking a huge risk on a promise with nothing to hold the school to anything. Maybe it works out. We'll see.

It worked out pretty well for Robertson.

Robertson was listed if I recall on the commitment board as the faxes came in last class on UTSports. He was showing on the scholarship roster from day 1. Is it fact he did BS or did he count toward 2014? He does show on those commitment lists. Imo I don't think he counts toward 2015. When they dropped Brown late, did they have a spot for Robertson?

Not at all. If they are on scholarship, they are at least safe for a bit.

Yep. You don't cut the mustard on Butch Jones' team and this is what you get.

If I recall, they can all be listed on the board NSD because they sign a financial aid agreement still, but do not sign a NLI. IMO, tomorrow you will see all of the commitments announced and we will never be told specifically who is blue shirted. If you recall, last year Butch said they "counted forward" and backward. Notorious later confirmed Robertson blue shirted. DConley has said he spoke with a coach who said Oliver and Bruce were in line for the BS this year.

DC said Bruce, Perry, Stewart, and Oliver.

Can they sign a FAA if they don't have a scholarship available in 2015? Would that not be considered "recruited"?
