Per Fort, Bussey and his father were offered options, including GS or BS opps, and decided not to accept. It was Bussey's call and probably the right choice for him. BUT Butch clearly was willing to let Bussey walk, since it was unlikely that he would accept a GS/BS. Bussey would have been an asset, but the coaches must think our needs are greater elsewhere. Or maybe they have somebody else on deck.
Coaches are vague about blueshirting, because nobody wants the loophole closed. But it's a form of forward counting that ultimately comes due. Hubbs and others say that we "blueshirted" Swafford and counted him as walk-on in 2013. The rules say we had to put him on scholarship within two years, so he counts against our 25 this year.
If that is the case Bussey made the right decision to move to aTm. I wish this kid the best of luck.
I think that our coaching staff was dirty if they let this get to the last weekend before signing day. I have no problem with what they did with Ford in giving him some time to make the changes. They knew they had Kelly for a couple of weeks now.
Had he not been visiting other schools, I would agree. IMO when your committed and visiting, all bets are off. I do agree they should have told him it's GS or nothing the day they took Kelly not wait till a couple days before NSD.
A blue shirt is as follows:
The player cannot partake in an official visit.
The player cannot receive an in-home visit.
The player signs nothing on National signing day.
The player shows up for fall camp and is imediately placed on scholarship.
Spot is forwarded and counts toward the next class.

Are you sure about these last two? Per Hubbs, blueshirts are generally brought in as walk-ons so they don't count against the 25/85 numbers. A BS player must be given a scholarship and counted against a class' 25 number within two years of walking on. There are ways to help with tuition until a scholly is provided. You have different info?

Some wondered why the Tennessee didn't replace Kendall Bussey with another running back down the stretch but after talking to his father and digging a little more into the situation Bussey was planning to blueshirt for Tennessee.
So, when Bussey decommitted he was essentially decommitting from the scholarships that were available in 2016 and didn't open up a spot for the 2015 class.
