'15 NC DT Sterling Johnson

Someone on twitter just said his coach said that Sterling is no longer announcing tonight

With recent offers from nd, uva, and ucla, I would probably look into those before picking unc. JMO

While he is looking, maybe UTs DT board becomes more clear cut and Johnson can have a better feeling of where he is on that board. IMO the kid will now end up elsewhere.

I actually agree with Leb Vol on Settle. I think we land McKenzie though

We may not land Settle but it was Lebanon Volunteers post that Tennessee was a long shot that seemed like an overstatement at best...I have no idea what Settle does but I really don't think our staff would be balking at a commitment from Johnson unless they felt very good for both McKenzie and Settle especially considering how desperate we are for DT's right now and what a struggle this program has had signing them lately. I see this development with Johnson as an encouraging sign for Settle...but who knows what will happen?

Or maybe they feel better about 1 of the other 15+ DTs they have offered not named Settle, McKenzie, or Johnson. :dunno:

Hubbs and PFort's take >>>>> Callahan's

Most of the time but Callahan has said for wks they wouldn't take this commitment yet as he is down their board even after the article Sterling was claiming us as clear leader. Each site seems to get their own story to be on top of. It's almost like coaches just spread the wealth of info

Plz summarize past 20 pages please. Don't tell me we passed on him

As of now, they have passed on him. Things could change, but I would wager he will decide to go elsewhere now. With the recent offers from nd and ucla, I'd expect to hear he will visit those schools.

Wait what happened here?

Interesting. Maybe they are really are trying to take this class slower.

Makes sense to me. As of today, we only have about 3 available spots. IMO there will be a lot of slow playing over the next few months. Some kids will wait, some won't. Some won't even realize they are being slow played unless they ask CBJ flat out, "can I commit today". 6-7 more kids leave and IMO a few of those back burner kids are back in play IF they are still considering our Vols.

I hope this is just a rumor because he is a very talented DT. While our recruiting efforts are taking off we are still in no place to turn down top notch talent on the Dline.

Looks like it. I just hope it doesn't bite us in the end. We've apparently turned down a good looking DT and CB already. Unless these kids are diehard fans it seems unlikely they'll sign with us.

I hope we don't end up regretting this. Don't we have an extra scholly since Carr left?

I'll admit the Ugo Amadi ordeal bothers me more than this one. I hate passing on quality instate kids. Especially when they then commit to another SEC school. Land Ordway and the Juco kid from Tennessee and I can let it slide. :)

Yes, but a lot of people don't realize that "extra spot" only gets us to like 14. Hill left so the number goes to 15. That is 15 total for the 2015 class as of now. There are already 11 commitments and 12 if you count Dews. That leaves 3 spots. Say you add Richmond, Phillips, and Ordway from instate. Technically your full UNTIL another kid leaves. With the talk of taking 2 QBs, 2 RBs, another WR, more on the OL, more LBs, 1 spot does not mean much in the bigger picture. 5 more kids leave and you have a class of 20. Long way to go till NSD, but ALOT has to happen to land all these kids people swear will be takes.

If we are only taking 3 DTs this class (hypothetically speaking), and we lead for 2 5* HS DTs and the best JUCO DT, then yes, we are in position to turn down someone like Sterling.
